Mica is app #2 under MXF Labs. clean Win11 install today, no SmartScreen warning. the cert is on the studio, not on my name. did that a month ago, didn't know if it would matter. SmartScreen pools trust at the cert subject. 4 months of ShotsGlow installs transferred to Mica.

kitesurfOK had 492 DAU on the 15th of every month. same moto g power phone every time. but Chrome version went up monthly. 144 in feb. 145 in march. 146 in april. real users don't update their browser on a schedule. that's an audit bot. filtered.

Snipping Tool was the only Windows tool i hadn't been able to retire. one flow: capture, copy to clipboard, paste into claude code. today ShotsGlow ships that exact flow. one hotkey, no editor, no save dialog. Snipping Tool retired.

QueryGlow GSC, 6 weeks ago: 83 clicks in 28 days. today: 184. what doubled isn't the impressions, those went up 55%. the clicks went up 122%. CTR climbed from 0.4 to 0.6. google didn't find more pages. it ranked the existing ones better.

@lilyraynyc Hey Lily, so I notice I get more and more email outreach to mention competitors in my Blog posts. Obviously i‘m not doing it but I was wondering what would happen to them and to me if I would do it. What would the disaster look like for both parties?

Great post. This entire thing is another disaster waiting to happen btw. Penguin update 2026 edition.

GEO vendors are pitching automated outreach for "brand mentions" which is basically link building 2.0 But the problem is that the link building industrial complex is dying. So GEO outreach for brand mentions is just a bastardized version of the link building industrial complex. Enter the GEO outreach industrial complex. Vendors are using FOMO and hype (cherry picked data studies) etc... to trick marketers into believing they NEED an automated system to acquire brand mentions. And while I agree it is important to expand into offsite marketing strategies, there are a few basic principles that brands should follow: 1. If you are the category leading winner, you do not need to do this. You would never see Ferrari asking cars dot com to include them in their listicles. 2. Domain age matters. If a website was spun up 3 months ago and blasted 100,000 pages into the index -- some of them will get cited by AI, but that DOES NOT MAKE THEM GOOD! 3. Domain Rating still matters as a proxy for outreach. I wouldn't reach out to any website under a DR 20. 4. Placements should come from a real business that sells an actual product (no content farms / no content mills). 5. Placements should come from websites that have topical focus and be topically relevant to your brand: (no best VPNs websites with a one-off page about your product category) 6. The placements / links should not come from pages that look like 100% AI generated slop. 7. The primary source of traffic for those domains should be aligned with your region. If you sell to North America, there's no reason to chase websites with 90% traffic coming from Pakistan, India, Philippines, Vietnam, etc. If any vendor has a problem with these VERY BASIC COMMON SENSE criteria, it's a grift and you should avoid working with them. These outreach filters are not unreasonable.

@searchbound hey peter, interesting to see you build a job board from scratch! thanks for sharing! may share where you get your initial data for jobs from? because you write you seed manually. so people use your job listing form?

6th months in, developing ZooJobs․com as a job board (bought domain for $6k) - some observations/thoughts: 🦒 this is an entirely different build, compared to RanchWork․com (you'd assume it'd be similar, but no) 🦒 I had (almost) instant traction with RW... ZJ initial growth slower (see img), but positive overall (traffic wise, similar to Vidalia dev early days) 🦒 currently seeding one job per day. manually. no bots, no ai. me. this helps me soak-in industry. 🦒 zoos appear to have HR departments, so need to adjust on how to reach them effectively (w/ ranches, either the husband, or wife, or kids often post the job) 🦒 leaning towards yearly price for unlimited listings as my primary package (RW is a-la-carte, one-off postings) 🦒 no sales yet; don't really care; starting to think sales may occur after a hand shake (versus self-serve like RW) 🦒 might attend some zoo & aquarium conferences later this year to meet folks (like I did w/ duderanch․com & got my first sale) in these early days, another focus is (selfishly) studying myself, to determine if there's some sort of intrinsic motivation here. Some pull towards this industry - some magic sauce that makes it fun for me to return every day. I ain't interested in grinding some project out that might cost me my sanity. I prefer building something where it doesn't feel like I'm building; or doesn't feel like I'm serving. It feels natural. Effortless action sortof. Hell, you can call it wu wei if you want. I want to start working, and then kindof forget that I'm working. Finding projects like that is hard. But it's doable. You just have to build a lot of projects. I've built so many over the years, I can never quite tell if something might fit - I only know after I build it, and start serving. Happy to say this one has been quite fun. Maybe daily pics of koalas, lions, cheetahs, and sea otters (holding hands) makes it more interesting 🦦🐆🦁🐨🤷‍♂️ /fin

user reported search broken on kiteCOMPASS. ssh'd in, pm2 logs, curl. root cause: hardcoded 60-day limit in the date API. bumped to 92. frontend now shows the real error instead of "Search failed." real kiters book 3-month trips. the limit never matched the user.

spam email made me click through my own blog. that's when i noticed the CTA at the end of every article was rendering as plain text, not a link. the link was just `/`. regex required at least one char after. dead button across the entire blog. the spam helped.

thought putting the right icon on a windows electron app was 1 line. needed three: BrowserWindow icon prop, ICO over PNG, and app.setAppUserModelId before any window opens. miss one and windows quietly uses the default.

every SEO guide says page titles should be ~60 chars so they don't truncate in google. extended every kitesurfOK title to 150-220 chars today. google reads the full string for ranking. truncation is just visual. long-tail queries match the part the SERP doesn't show.

kitesurfOK is climbing in GSC again. one year ago I overdid pSEO and went flat for 12 months. cleanup commit Jan 31. recovery exactly 2 months later. everyone posts the pSEO growth screenshots. nobody posts the 12-month crash.

the homepage isn't selling features. it's running the product on loop. built an 8-second autoplay above the fold: capture, polish, annotate, export to 4 social formats, reset. you watch the workflow run before you scroll. for a screenshot tool, the demo is the marketing.

ran four AI research jobs in parallel. all four said DataForSEO was down. it wasn't. each had hit one error and stopped. re-ran one call. it worked. audited their output. found 3 invented competitor entries. deadline doesn't excuse shipping AI guesses as facts.

registered a business this afternoon because Windows wouldn't let me install my own app. Smart App Control blocked Setup.exe on a fresh laptop. fix is Azure code signing. Azure code signing needs a registered company. 30€ Gewerbeschein. domains in the same hour.

shipped a feature in ShotsGlow i couldn't use myself. image layers had forward and backward buttons. with 5 images, 'bring this to the front' was 4 clicks of guessing. you couldn't see the stack. added a visual layer strip today. one click. you see what's where.

was about to rip out ShotsGlow's 1GB background-removal download for the new windows on-device AI API. researched first. needs a copilot+ PC with NPU (3-5% of windows). microsoft paint's own button uses the cloud. my rig has no NPU. one prompt killed the plan.

QueryGlow's search traffic is up 54% since march. stripe has been flat since february 28. traced to one commit on march 17 that swapped the primary blog CTA from buy-now to 'try the demo.' demo subdomain has no tracking, no return path. 7 weeks of growth, one-way exit door.
