@QuotingDev @McQuiry If you only count hours worked for a single item if that item has guaranteed return then sure, it's great money (aka if the item is a commission). But the system is based on speculative work from thousands of people, with a slight chance of return. Most people work for free...

@McQuiry When people start treating the workshop like a business, of course the values don't add up. 35K for a skin is objectively a good retunrn for hours worked but you can argue endlessly about if its a fair share of the revenue they generate.

Everyone who says that $35k is a fair amount for a CS2 skin simply has no idea how much time and effort it takes to actually get into the game. Many professional artists spend years trying and still never make it.

Skin creator "react" commented on the new CS2 payout system after his Desert Eagle | Firebreathing got added to the game in the latest update. “If I knew it would end up like this, I would’ve never started making skins for this kind of money.” He reportedly received around $35,000 for the skin, after nearly 6 years of making skins.

.@HP Spectre x360 Laptops with RTX4050 are basically a scam at this point. It is incapable of running any half decent program for more than 20s without clocking the GPU to 210Mhz, making it slower than any iGPU. @HPSupport insists this is normal, for $2200. Never again.

There was a hedge model decompiled from Half-Life: Alyx and used in the Danger Zone map Vineyard. In its texture files, there was a funny text saying that the model was, in turn, stolen by other map creators for their content. I ended up stealing it too for Palais in CS:GO😈

I kinda want to look into DangerZone for @csco_dev but post-release. I never liked how DZ didn't felt much like CS, I'm sure there's a right balance to make it fit. CS just isn't made for big open spaces. They had to go goofy with bumpmines and whatnot to make it work.

@ZPostFacto @kulkalkul It’s amazing for simple tasks like that, basically a faster more personal search engine. Unfortunately for now it fails spectacularly with more specialized queries. But it’s amazing at creating a bunch of answers that all don’t work in a slightly different way

@kulkalkul That's right, for now. I wouldn't make any predictions about the state of affairs in 5-10 years. You gotta move up the value chain. But to get the point where you can do that takes time. ChatGPT stacks up pretty good against an inexperienced CS undergrad, so it's tough.

chatgpt has its limitations, but man it is just sooooooo useful for certain things. It just busted out this script for me. Massive time win. The only time lost is the time I lose with my mind blown telling everybody how amazing this thing is.

@iamandik @ValveSquad That would be a huge bummer. There are already some insane quality maps submitted for CS2. I hope we get some kind of rotating workshop map selection that's more than just operations. I think community maps have a place in CS all the time, not just during special events.

@CounterStrike Replacing CS:GO without first having feature parity was such a weird move. Of course it was necessary to prevent another split playerbase due to the transition, but taking away half the game without a replacement and no apparent plan to bring it back seems equally terrible

I miss being able to play a chill round of @CounterStrike in wingman or dz. CS2 simply doesnt cut it in its current form, it's so hyper focused on competitive, lacks other modes and even the maps in wm are only the most serious that existed in GO. I hope 2024 will be better.

The premise that everything can be hacked is largely true. Given an infinite amount of time and resources. There is a delta between this and what is done IRL. CS evolved but skins are still living in the past. This is how long it's been since the last cosmetic items updates in CS2: Knive models: ~4 years Glove models: ~7 years Operation: ~2 years Case: ~9 months And... 10 years since the "Arms Deal Update", when skins were introduced. Will we finally get the "Arms Deal Update 2.0" with CS2? We now have much better tools to create skins, bringing endless new creative possibilities, to level up the future of our new items. Valve is the one that sets the parameters and the quality standard, so that the Workshop Community follows it and has an idea/base of what they are expecting. So, I think it's not only a great opportunity to release new items taking advantage of all the new tools/engines, to impact the community, but also a big responsibility, a must do, IMO. Tho, considering how everything is going, I wouldn't doubt we get the same 2013 items, with just new finishes… Fact is, everyone is starving for some new content, especially Workshop creators that live out of skins (I feel bad for them at this point). Anyways, my wallet is ready.

@TR3x3r @ThourCS @CounterStrike Third person models need to match what other people see, just let people swap the first person model again. The only drawback is for the player that chooses to do this (shadows) and for everyone else it would look normal.
