the best book i've read this year: ego is the enemy by @RyanHoliday. through this i uncovered my ego as a blindspot and blocker to a better, more fulfilling, and effective life. here are 5 quotes that might resonate and hint towards less ego as one of your challenges, too:

We burned $14M, were weeks away from bankruptcy. Today we have $25M ARR and are announcing a $58M Series A. All in a span of 1.5 years. Here's the story:

my understanding of great leadership is providing 1) clarity: setting priorities. 2) space to execute: empower independent decision taking, block any outside influences. 3) identity: nurture team members ability to morph their identity in whoever they need to become.

read this when you have no clue how to find a freelance gig. this is the essence of what made me go from nervous breakdown to making >$10k per month freelancing within 30 days. if you find yourself trying to secure your first freelance gig, here's the 3 step process to get started. ___ 1. figure out what to sell • make a list of 3 specific skills you have monetized already. • ask yourself for each of the employers you've already worked for, what the core skill was they hired your for. • go through your cv, step by step. 2. rank your output of 1. by what the market needs more urgently. • form a hypothesis on which of the skills you listed is underserved (gap between demand and supply). • simplify - talking to one peer who's currently engaging in this activity might help make that assessment. • important: you're just ranking hypotheses here, not get a phd. 3. determine your most important action for the next 30-days. • reverse engineer how many outreaches you need to do to get your first gig • do a back-of-the-envelope calculation on how many people you think you would need to reach out to in order to secure one gig. • for example: you need 10 conversations to close one client, you need 300 outreaches for 10 conversations, you're probably off by 10% with your assumptions -> 330 outreaches. 11 per day. ____ finally, do the actions, and reward yourself. follow me if you like this type of content, chris

@RyanHoliday quote #5/5 instead of pretending that we are living some great story, we must remain focused on execution - and on executing with excellence. we must shun the false crown and continue working on what got us here. --- be specific and focus on execution.

@RyanHoliday quote 4/5 living clearly and presently takes courage. don't live in the haze of the abstract, live with the tangible and real, even if {...} it's uncomfortable. be part in what's going on around you. feast on it, adjust for it. --- live presently,
