I’ve come to realize that one of the biggest reasons Nigeria might never be good is just not bad leadership alone but the average Nigerian is a bad person. For what?” She went on to say they hadn’t gone to law school yet, so they didn’t deserve to be paid. That mentality is exactly the problem. What makes it even more ironic is that this same person is a pastor’s wife, with children who have studied abroad and are doing well. Yet she sees nothing wrong with expecting young people to work for free in an already difficult economy. It’s not just about leadership, a lot of the so-called elites are deeply selfish and disconnected from reality. How do you expect people to survive if you normalize unpaid work? In a country where things are already hard, choosing to exploit others instead of supporting them isn’t just unfair — it’s part of why progress feels so slow.
