Aku beberapa kali kritik Arteta, tapi aku sangat apresiasi cara dia membangun kultur di Arsenal. Banyak pelatih yang ditugasin untuk rebuild klub tapi gagal. Bukan karena pelatihnya nggak pernah menangin trofi, bukan karena pemainnya nggak jago, tapi karena nggak ada culture di dalamnya. I am talking this as an HR professional, culture is one of the most fundamental aspects that every organization needs to have. Pemain bisa cedera, pemain bisa turun form, taktik bisa dibaca lawan. Tapi tim yang punya culture kuat tetap bisa menang bahkan di kondisi yang nggak ideal karena setiap orangnya tau perannya, percaya satu sama lain, dan mau berjuang untuk sesuatu yang lebih besar dari diri mereka sendiri. Waktu interview pertamanya sebagai manajer Arsenal, hal pertama yang Arteta bahas tuh nggak tactical sama sekali. Arteta langsung ngebahas tentang energy dan culture yang mau ia bangun. Ada satu kalimat yang Arteta bilang waktu itu cukup ngejelasin cara ia ngeliat tim: “If you don’t have the right culture, when difficult moments arrive, the tree is going to shake.” Ini menurutku penting karena PASTI momen sulit itu pasti datang dan tim yang punya “akar” kuat bakal survive. Terus gimana cara Arteta untuk nemuin the right person for the culture? Beberapa tahun kemudian, aku nonton interview Arteta lainnya dan jadi tau gimana cara simple Arteta untuk nge-filter rekrutan pemain dan staff. Ada tiga pertanyaan: • Can he do it? • Does he know how to do it? • Does he want to do it? Yang terakhir paling penting karena willingness itu salah satu drivers terbesar dalam diri seseorang buat ngelakuin sesuatu. Arteta juga bilang kalau setiap orang yang masuk ke klub harus merasa privileged jadi bagian dari Arsenal, mereka harus punya 3 values: respect, commitment, dan passion. Nggak ada orang yang merasa klub butuh dia lebih dari dia butuh klub karena begitu satu orang merasa lebih penting dari kolektif, culture itu bisa retak. Arteta memang belum membawa trofi selain FA Cup dan Community Shield. Tapi mungkin kita lupa betapa messy-nya Arsenal sebelum dia datang. Mungkin kita nggak tau betapa sulitnya mengubah culture sebuah klub besar yang sudah lama kehilangan identitasnya. That is not an easy job, bahkan banyak pelatih yang nggak tau harus mulai dari mana.

I’ll never trash Ben White. You won’t get that from me. 🔴 He’s given everything to this project. Him, Saka, Gabriel, Saliba — the core that carried us. From 21/22 to 23/24, Ben White was relentless. Playing every few days, consistently delivering 8/10 performances. Always available. Always demanding the ball. Always up for the fight. Doing the dirty work, the details, the things people don’t always notice. He played through injuries too. That night at St James’ — strapped up, still showing up when we needed him. Very few deserve to lift trophies here more than him. Now he’s coming back from burnout and injuries. This is when he needs support, not noise. Let’s back him. He’s earned that.
