@MBitcoiner @asabbas98 So true. So bottom line we have to rethink the way we pay zakaat nowadays.

I talk about it a little bit in my book, but I start from the basic premise that zakat requires saving, or deferring consumption. Since our monetary system is inflationary (money supply expansion) and debt (and Riba) based, it discourages saving, therefore increases our collective time preference. This works against our ability to save wealth, especially for the longterm. We work extra hard to not even be able to save as much. But there's also the incentive to be in debt and fund projects with debt rather than saving, which seems rational if the money is devaluing. Already we have this counteracting Riba force that discourages saving for the future to even be able to pay zakat to begin with. And the part that's super important is that we’re paying zakat on “money” that is, at its root, instantiated through interest based credit. That's a structural contradiction in how we handle zakat that we must address first.

Zakat is actually SO criminally underrated as a tool to reverse socioeconomic injustices.

Insane to think that this post was made on reddit on r/Islam 10 years ago: "if our goal is just to avoid all the usury associated with fiat money when it is created, there might be a solution. I have recently been looking into bitcoin - a global digital decentralized p2p currency... it does have the advantage of not being associated with usury/riba when bitcoins are created. Bitcoin is a currency that is not based on riba like fiat currencies."

In societies where this is very accessible without having to make any effort then we are bound to have women taking advantage of men like this. In more conservative societies matters like these are settled differently.

I’ve heard the argument that men shouldn’t get married because the courts are unfavorable to men in a divorce. The girl who slept with Shannon Sharpe was asking for 10 million and he just settled. Although we don’t know the final settlement amount, the data the public will never get to see is the amount of money that men pay out in “shake down” settlements to women they had consensual relations with. So my question is, in today’s society which is perceived as a higher risk to men? Marriage (with the possibility of divorce) or no marriage (with the possibility of every woman you have relations with coming after you). Only interested in hearing male responses to this.
