“The deeper question is whether Iranians are being treated as equal human beings in global coverage. During the war in Ukraine, some Western journalists emphasised that Ukrainians were “like us.” We do not see the same language used for Iranians.” shorturl.at/jEu2w

The sinking of an Iranian ship off Sri Lanka is a nightmare scenario for SL, which like many other Global South states badly wants to avoid getting drawn into a dangerously expanding war. Further complicating matters for SL is that it has a fairly warm relationship with Israel.

The world, Europe, and Spain have faced this critical moment before. In 2003, a few irresponsible leaders dragged us into an illegal war in the Middle East that brought nothing but insecurity and pain. Our response then must be our response now: NO to violations of international law. NO to the illusion that we can solve the world’s problems with bombs. NO to repeating the mistakes of the past. NO TO WAR. lamoncloa.gob.es/presidente/int…

Has India become so spineless that it can't tell USA that it has no business to use its submarine to kill 80 sailors by sinking an Iran ship that was returning from India after a Naval Exercise — that too,so perilously close to India? Vishwaguru ???? ndtv.com/world-news/iri…

Just a few weeks ago, Mark Carney, Canada's liberal Prime Minister whom trump calls governor Carney, gave a rousing speech at Davos about the fading rules-based order. Invoking Thucydides, he rejected the rule of the mighty and urged a third way. Last month, at the Munich Security Conference, Germany's chancellor Merz, who was concerned about a US takeover of Greenland, repeated Carney's views on the rules-based order. For the past four years, European diplomats and leaders have been lecturing the rest about the primacy of international law and territorial sovereignty and the need to punish Russia over the Ukraine invasion. Did you see at least one of them condemn this blatant aggression against a sovereign country in the South and the assassination of its head of state? (Zelensky by the way was one of the first leaders that welcomed the war on Iran).
