How to Start an Oil and Gas Business with Just N10,000,000 With N10 million, you’re not touching upstream (exploration, drilling) or owning a filling station. Those need hundreds of millions minimum. But there are real entry points in oil and gas services and downstream trading. Realistic paths at this budget are 1. Oil and gas service company (OGISP permit) CAC registration with N5 million share capital (N85k-150k to incorporate), then NUPRC or NMDPRA General or Major Category OGISP permit. General category is N5,000, Major category around N27,500. This lets you legally offer services like logistics, haulage, equipment supply, consultancy, manpower services, or QA/QC to oil companies. Your real cost isn’t the permit, it’s building relationships to actually win contracts. 2. Petroleum products trading/marketing Register as a reseller or agent for a licensed depot or major marketer (like NNPC or an independent marketer). You buy diesel (AGO) or PMS in bulk from a depot and sell to industrial clients, generators, transport companies. N10 million can fund a few truckloads depending on price at the time. No filling station needed, this is trading, not retail infrastructure. 3. Cooking gas (LPG) retail/refilling agent Rather than building an LPG plant (which needs much more), become a retail agent or sub-dealer under an existing licensed LPG refilling facility. You handle cylinder distribution and retail in your area. Lower capital, faster to start. 4. Lubricant blending distribution or haulage/logistics support Become a distributor for an existing lubricant brand, or provide haulage trucks/logistics support to oil companies. Asset-light services are the most realistic use of N10 million. What actually eats the money are - CAC incorporation and share capital positioning - NUPRC/NMDPRA permit fees (relatively cheap, N5k-N257k depending on category) - NSITF, PENCOM, tax registration - Working capital for your first trade cycle (this is usually the biggest chunk) The honest truth is that, at N10 million, your business is going to be a service or trading company, not an asset-owning company. The money should mostly go into your first inventory cycle or your first contract execution, not into fixed infrastructure.

You'll have N5 million and Twitter investors would be advising you to lock it up in Piggyyvest, mmf on interest of 18% per annum. That'll yield you N900,000 at the end of the year and N75,000 every month. Very rubbish something. How can you be comfortable getting just N75,000 monthly on a N5 million investment. Instead of that, Go to any busy market within your town. Secure a shop. Go straight to Dangote cement and order for a trailer load. As at today, the factory price is N11,700. And there's 300 bags in a trailer load. That's a total of N3,525,000. And they will deliver it cost-free to anywhere you are in Nigeria. When the cement arrives, you can sell at N12,750 and within a month you can finish one trailer load and make N3,825,000. That'll give you a profit of N300,000 in just that month. And the interesting thing is that you may not even need to be there. Get a salesgirl and only come around to take stock records. Within a year, you have N3.6 million Naira profit and a huge portion of your N5 million capital is still untouched. Everything no be Piggyyvest and MMF. That's for lazy investors.
