The Uganda U17 Men’s National Team technical bench now features five former stars: Steven Bengo, Sadam Juma, Patrick Senfuka, Yasin Mugabi, Jerome Katende and Vincent Tumusiime “Titi”. This system has spread to all other national teams for both men and women.

I wish to congratulate Mr. Samson Adamu the Acting General Secretary of CAF for coming into this position. I believe he is the right person, but most importantly at the right time, because he has been in charge of competitions at CAF, where AFCON was sitting directly in his hands. Now elevating him to the position of the General Secretary, for me he has come at the right time because we are speaking with a person who has been involved in hosting these competitions.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the government of Uganda, Honourable Minister, on behalf of the football fraternity of Uganda, of East Africa, for having accepted our proposal that we bid host AFCON for the first time in the East Africa. CAF awarded us the rights to host AFCON in 2027, and what i have never doubted is that as East Africa, we have the ability to host these events. What we were lacking is the opportunity and the experience. Out of this experience, we want to learn so that in the future we help football not only for its continental competitions, but also our national competitions. This is an opportunity for the East African community like our head of state has been very, very clear on this, that we need to integrate East Africa. What an opportunity that our beloved game, the most beautiful game, is being used to bring East Africa together. Football is not going to be the same in this region after this tournament. We believe that other than the goals, there is also value that we bring to our territory by bringing more visitors, more tourists, and definitely this builds our tourism sector and its value addition to the economies of Africa. I want to appreciate that we are going to be challenged. We want to learn from CAF, whatever we need to do well. The objective is to make East Africa the best host of Africa ever. I want to thank CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, who has walked with us on this journey and insists that all African countries should be given an opportunity to host. As the football community in this country, we are really grateful because the infrastructure challenge of East Africa is being solved once and for all. We believe that we shall not stop at AFCON, but also the other tournaments of CAF will eventually be hosted, because we shall have the experience and facilities.

The fruits of planning and strategy!! It gives me great joy to see that even when still only 25% complète, @FufaStadium is already contributing to the easing of the sporting infrastructure challenge that football in Uganda has suffered with over the years. As we speak today, Kadiba together with St marys stadium and Hamz stadium are the only CAF accredited stadiums that can host international matches (category 3) since Mandela stadium is closed for infrastructure up grade and Hoima stadium is yet to be cleared. Tomorrow the Teen Cranes will host Zimbabwe in the FIFA U17 Women's World Cup qualifiers and it will be free access for all.
