The CBC "prank show" deception scandal is getting so much worse. The producers (operating under fake identities/fake company names with fake websites) told a number of RCMP veterans - people who dedicated their lives to serving on the frontlines - that they were invited to film for a show called "Life After Service." A ceremony to thank them for their service would follow, and they were told dignitaries would be present. This would take place at the CBC Vancouver studio. They were told to come in uniform. When the RCMP vets arrived at the CBC Vancouver studio on March 25th and 26th, the "pranksters" took their phones away, which they claimed was CBC Vancouver studio policy. The former RCMP officers were also placed in front of an audience of what they were told were about two dozen "journalists." And it was sprung on them that this was a "live broadcast", with "media availability" afterwards! Then the producers switched up the whole session to be not about life after service, but the historical wrongs committed by the RCMP against indigenous peoples - to berate these vets for being part of the RCMP. There is so much more but I am hoping the individuals targeted in this elaborate scheme will be able to share their stories themselves. Seriously, what even sounds remotely funny or silly about this concept? It is just sick and cruel @CBCNews and @APTNNews... what are you thinking?

@izakaminska Pursue small scale fusion electric power for growth; same as James Watt's steam engine powered so much of the industrial revolution. Which needs deep pockets and large markets to scale. 51st state alignment is my preference.

The UK either has to join a bigger system (my preference is 51st state as it's the growing and freer system) or pull something absolutely insane out of its ass. Advanced tech could do it. Ideally, we all get along. I think it's entirely possible that we reach some sort of scenario where America/China collectively drive growth for the world in a mutually enhancing way, and everyone else is effectively subsidised by that growth. Whose umbrella such countries come under is determined by the values they hold dear. I think Europe overestimates its alignment with China. It is no more tolerant of welfarism than America. In a high productivity future being a subsidised state won't be all that bad. The only issue will be what the super powers require from you to maintain access to that wealth. I think the choice is obvious.

I’m 17 years or more late to this realisation. But… it dawned on me yesterday quite acutely that giving central banks a financial stability and macro prudential mandate was actually a grave error and is partly responsible for the breakdown of the entire independent central banking model. I very much under appreciated these political economy implications at the time. systemicrisk.ac.uk/sites/default/…?

What this means in practice is that the UK’s economic model is bounded by a very clear GBPUSD threshold. This is because if GBP falls below that threshold the credibility of Britain’s hyper financialised economic model - powered by the collection of global rents - falls apart. This becomes all the more of an unrecoverable doom loop if it requires an IMF intervention. The only long term antidote is reforming the economic system around non financialised economic rents. But that takes time and political vision. In the interim, whenever actual economic growth fails to deliver the goods needed to support that key GBP threshold, the system resorts to leverage to delay the structural reckoning needed to properly cover the shortfall. Eventually the leverage becomes untenable, a crisis happens, and the shortfall has to be plugged by UK taxpayers anyway. Usually without the necessary structural reform needed to ensure this never happens again.

For the benefit of non British followers. The UK had its equivalent of the midterms yesterday and it did not go too well for the ruling party. Nor did it go too well for the other traditionally ruling party. It did however go very well for the new turquoise party which has historically struggled to get seats of power despite pulling in a hefty share of the vote nationally because Britain continues to believe that posts matter more than percentages. So now the prime minister of the ruling party that everyone seems to hate may or may not resign or be sacked in a no confidence vote. Except he probably won’t resign or be sacked because neither he or his party seem to care about public perception or will and nobody has yet created an effigy of him. Traditionally, a British prime minister cannot resign until they have been publicly shamed by being compared to at least one decomposing vegetable. Ideally a cabbage. This is an ancient and sacred common law ritual; without it, meaningful political change is considered invalid. If a prime minister resigns before the ritual has been enacted, he is generally granted a kinder historical legacy than any prime minister who underwent full vegetableisation, even if his tenure leaves Britain with higher bond yields than the properly vegetated one did. Either way, the chancellor — our equivalent of the Treasury secretary — will certainly never resign, because she is widely regarded by the papers of record to be a 4D chess grandmaster as well as a uniquely gifted financial strategist with impeccable qualifications. Accordingly, she is best positioned on the global stage to expose her American counterpart’s inferior understanding of global economic matters, tariffs and the Iran war, which is naturally the real cause of Britain’s economic distress. Not her. Or her government. Consequently, even if she succeeds in breaking Britain’s finances, the Bank of England will never break her. And if the entire system does somehow collapse, the papers of record will insist it was all Scott Bessent’s fault.

@AGOWA AG Nick Brown doesn't lift a finger to clamp down on repeat offenders. With 28 prior arrests, 13 convictions, 46 lifetime warrants, and nine active warrants across 5 WA state jurisdictions he has now committed a sickening crime. x.com/PeakSeattle/st…
Peak Seattle@PeakSeattle

I'm absolutely sickened by this story. Yesterday I saw a Citizen post, which I've attached below, about some poor teenage girl who got dragged into the woods and sexually assaulted. I had my suspicions, but I let the story go because I couldn't find out anymore information about it then. Then today I see this KOMO story: tinyurl.com/4jryzerc Turns out the assault actually happened in Northgate, just east of Kraken Community Iceplex, and near the community center there. It was a couple of hours later that they arrested the guy on Aurora, close to the Home Depot. They caught this dirtbag while he was shitting in the middle of the street. I'm going to go way out on a limb here and assume he's one of our precious "houseless neighbors:" "About two hours after the reported assault, firefighters who had treated the victim earlier spotted a man matching the suspect’s description defecating in the street near Aurora Avenue North and North 115th Street, leading to his arrest." But here's the really infuriating part: "King County Jail records show he had been released from custody last week in connection with a separate case. He also has multiple active warrants from Snohomish County and Puyallup Municipal Court. His record includes more than a dozen prior arrests, including robbery, shoplifting, domestic violence assault, and drug possession, though none resulted in felony convictions. According to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, a recent drug possession case involving the suspect had been routed into a therapeutic alternative diversion program, which likely would not have resulted in jail time even if he had been convicted." I wonder what program that was? LEAD? And why wasn't he rewarded with a free apartment? So we had this guy. But because we were refuse to lock these scumbags up and repeatedly release them, now some poor girl has had her life shattered. She will never be the same again. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Each year on May 5, we observe a day of remembrance for missing and murdered Indigenous women and people. This crisis touches nearly everyone in tribal communities, across state, tribal, and national borders. Five years ago, the Legislature established the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People Task Force, administered by the AG’s Office, to understand and address the disproportionate rate of missing and murdered people from tribal communities in Washington. The Task Force has made critical progress, including developing a Missing Indigenous Persons Toolkit and establishing the MMIWP Cold Case Unit. These are positive steps, but the crisis is far from over, and we must keep pushing forward. Today, I invite you to join me in reaffirming our commitment to pursuing justice for Indigenous people, our commitment to systemic change to end violence against Native people, and our commitment to bring every loved one home. Seattle’s CCTV cameras are helping solve violent crimes. LATEST: A 77-year-old man was attacked near 3rd & Pine. @AGRobBonta California's seabed features natural oil seeps that release oil regularly, contributing millions of gallons annually to the ocean and forming tarballs on beaches. Better for the environment to cap and tap wells.

We’re filing a motion for a preliminary injunction in an effort to block the Trump Administration from unlawfully greenlighting the restart of two CA onshore oil pipelines that are subject to State regulation and oversight. Unfortunately, California has seen first-hand the devastating environmental and public health impacts of coastal oil spills, yet the Trump Administration will stop at nothing to evade state regulation, which protects against these very disasters.

Five of the nine positions on the WA State Supreme Court are up for election this November. More than usual. We need the current set of political hacks out and judges who will defend the people's constitutional rights in.
Viet Q Nguyen@VietQNguyen

Unbelievable. Washington State Supreme Court has stripped the people of Washington State their people's veto by referendum. We now understand this a kangaroo court. The argument that the state income tax was an emergency doesn't hold any water. @AGOWA argued this was required because it was a revenue bill. But for 20 years, Washington lawmakers almost never used the referendum-blocking clause on tax bills. Then, in 2025, every single emergency-clause tax bill used it — and the practice carried into 2026. This is a sham. thereflector.com/stories/washin…
