I really hope Sinners wins a thousand Academy Awards, so everyone decides Oscar-worthy films don’t have to ship in the last five minutes of the year from now on.

@icculus Should we expect support for Bindless Textures or maybe even Mesh Shaders and Ray Tracing pipelines?

@kade0913 Notably: you can't use this with the other 2D rendering backends, and not all systems support the GPU API, so you might give up some deep compatibility if you rely on this. But if you're targeting desktop systems, it'll probably work out, and otherwise it's usual 2D API.

@kade0913 It's the usual 2D API, but behind the scenes it uses the GPU API instead of OpenGL or whatever; it could already do that, but we've added hooks so when you're using this codepath, you can tweak it with more powerful rendering options. wiki.libsdl.org/SDL3/SDL_SetGP…

Oh wow, someone built a profiler for DragonRuby Game Toolkit: pvande.itch.io/firestarter Super cool! I love the "please don't buy a commercial license until you make money" note, too. But sorry, good sir: it's an instant buy over here even without a specific game in mind. :)

@steve_saturday This was most every big thing we wanted in the initial release plus a million bug fixes. Hopefully the next big milestone won’t be _this_ big. :)

What is a movie you watched once that was so disturbing or emotionally draining that you can never watch it again?

@BehaviourTree Sinners? Oh yeah, it’s good. Even if you strip all the art and nuance from it, it’s still a better version of From Dusk Til Dawn.

I worked on Call of Duty games all the way through Modern Warfare. I was always grateful that he took a chance on a weird Linux gaming nerd like me. It was interesting work that opened doors for me.

Holy shit, Vince Zampella died: nbclosangeles.com/news/local/vid… He brought me on to port the original Medal of Honor to Linux, as he was transitioning from 2015 to a new company named "Infinity Ward" that was working on...you know, just a little shooter game.

I honestly do not understand why there is an api for apps to access your contacts at all, and why modern iOS doesn’t just unconditionally deny apps that call -[CNContactStore requestAccess].
@mikko@mikko

How are apps still doing this? Companies: stop asking users to upload their address books. And everyone else: refuse to upload your address book to random apps and social media platforms. The contacts in your phone are not your data. It’s other people’s data.
