In other crazy news LUCKI is being sued for breach of contract with EMPIRE RECORDS Financial Stakes: Empire says it has paid Lucki nearly $10 million since 2019 in advances and expenses. Contracts gave Empire exclusive worldwide rights to distribute Lucki’s music. Contract Dispute: Original deal signed in 2019, followed by a 2024 recording agreement. Empire claims it had the option for three more albums after Lucki’s “Gemini LP” (June 2024). Empire says it exercised the option “by conduct” (funding sessions + paying $600,000 production invoices) before sending formal notice. Lawsuit Filed: Empire Distribution (San Francisco label) sued Chicago rapper Lucki (LC Camel Jr.) for breaching contract. Allegation: Lucki released a new single under rival distributor UnitedMasters, violating exclusivity. Termination Controversy: Lucki’s lawyer sent a termination notice in July 2024. Empire claims the cancellation was hidden in legal correspondence, buried as a single sentence, and omitted in the emailed copy — calling it deceptive and designed to trick them into missing the option window. Breach & Takedown: Lucki dropped “Not So Virgo of You” on Oct. 1 through UnitedMasters. Empire demanded takedowns; the single was removed from Spotify, YouTube, and streaming platforms. Lucki’s lawyer criticized Empire’s deal as “unfair”, citing: A 50% profit split (arguably worse than industry norms). Marketing expenses being recouped from Lucki’s share. Empire is seeking: An injunction blocking Lucki from releasing elsewhere. A declaration that the 2024 contract is still valid.
