Two decades. 160+ countries. Proven safety. Director General ICMR Dr. Rajiv Bahl reaffirmed that the HPV vaccine has been safely used worldwide for over 20 years and cannot cause infection. Mild side effects such as temporary redness or low-grade fever are rare, while serious adverse events are extremely uncommon. In India, the vaccine has already been safely administered in the private sector. Now, under the Government programme, it will be provided free of cost after informed parental consent to all girls of 14 years of age, ensuring equitable access to life-saving protection against cervical cancer.
