I Control students learn about a brain skill called Shifting. This means changing the way we think about something or react to something. A student may be upset they aren’t able to eat lunch with their friend. They can shift to see this as an opportunity for new friends!

In Unit 1, I Control students learn about executive functions or brain skills. One of these is working memory! We use this brain skill when we hold information in our mind for a short period of time so we can use it 💡

In Unit 4 of the I Control curriculum, students learn social problem solving skills by looking at different types of problems and how to solve them step-by-step using IC skills. #icontrol

IC students learn ho􏰍w to calm down􏰛 􏰍when they encounter difficult emotional situations through mindfulness and relaxation techniques. When students learn to be aware and relax in difficult situations, they can make better decisions. #icontrol

During Unit 3, I Control students learn how to label different emotions, physical signs of emotions, what emotions help communicate to ourselves and others in social situations, and in what situations people experience the common emotions. #icontrol #ebd

Have you ever set and achieved a goal? When we commit to our goals, we’re more likely to achieve success if our goals are aligned with our values! 􏰉Values are the ideals and beliefs that w􏰓e care 􏰖about most. They can be things like health, family, friends, and education!

The fourth and final unit of the I Control curriculum provides students with explicit instruction on how to solve social problems including identifying the problem, developing solution options, testing one or more of those options, and evaluating the outcome. #ebd #specialed #uf

Teachers ranked both the appeal and ease of use each with an average rating of 4.9 and ranked I Control's effectiveness with an average rating of 4.6 on a six-point scale where a six is strongly agree.
