Today, on Transgender Day of Remembrance, we mourn the transgender Americans whose lives were taken this year in horrific acts of violence. Every American deserves to be treated with dignity, and live free from discrimination. Today, we recommit to building a country where everyone is afforded that promise.

my heart breaks daily for the trans community. so underrepresented, misunderstood, used as a tool for political fodder, not even given a place to go or feel safe now.. let alone be recognized. I was first introduced to the community at a young age. I’ve taken the time to understand what it feels like to not have your insides align with your outsides, and feeling trapped in your own body.. let alone suppressed into nothing by the government. so many feel there is no quality of life when caged without consideration. All of us are just searching for our most authentic identity, i would never want mine suppressed therefore i will never suppress another’s. I wish we could resonate in that space of compassion collectively. we don’t have to kill everything we don’t understand, or eat everything we kill. Would it be so hard to just leave some space for the things you aren’t, and may never understand, to just exist. There’s plenty of room. you made it for ‘god’.
