I thought this was the year I was Finally Going to Write Something but lol. On the downside, I've never worked so much in my life and have no time for leisure activities either, so I've got that going for me.

@fivefteditrix I just read Courtney Maum's novel Touch, which kind of nails some of these things, but which I'm also worried is just me liking something that's saying back to me things I already think.

@fivefteditrix It all feels like a significantly accelerated Ted Talkification of everyone's inner lives.

This article popped up the other morning and it made me so profoundly sad, which is my general reaction to AI stuff.

And then, perfect timing, as I was coming here to post, this ad showed up, which is really doubling down on the sad.

It makes perfectly reasonable points about the benefits of this app, but then the examples of it in action are so...dull. Like a human, but with nothing inside.

I interviewed for a job at the start of the summer and was told 1) I nailed the interview and 2) they're not filling the position at this time, so that was a real bummer.

I just watched The Big Short for the first time in several years. Are the montages supposed to be an Adam Curtis reference?

I logged in to twitter for no real reason and once again (still?) it's The End. Everyone was lovely and I miss having fun on here.

Chillwave obsessed--and obsessively recreated--an aestheticized past in order to create a nostalgia that might be the foundation for an optimism.

It's also why "Deadbeat Summer" hit so hard--the recognition that it was increasingly impossible to feel that way not only about the present, but about the past as well.

Heard "Summer of '69" in the car and it struck me that "being able to feel like the narrator of that song about the present" would be a pretty succinct shorthand for a political program.

Just rewatched "Lisa's Substitute" and will I never not be waiting for my note from Mr. Bergstrom?

Jai Paul performing at coachella but not being broadcast on the official stream: feed aesthetics in action!

I have started taking some notes to myself under the title "Our Days of Kipple and Wonder." Here's hoping it might coalesce into something at some point.

@stalecooper Happy to be the alert! He had a live concert broadcast on npr years ago that I managed to download and it's always been my favourite thing by him. This album reminds me a lot of that live broadcast weirdly.

The new Tim Hecker album is his most immediately engaging since Ravedeath, 1972, IMO. It's really quite gorgeous and quintessentially his music, which is not a bad thing at all.
