Fidel's ideals resonated with leaders and communities across the world, including our own, Rev. Lucius Walker. We are eternally grateful for the life and legacy of Fidel, and will continue to honor him and Rev Lucius Walker building internationalism and solidarity.

Under Fidel's leadership, Cuba founded the Latin American School of Medicine ELAM in 1999, offering free medical education to students from marginalized communities worldwide. This bold initiative embodies his belief that “humanity must be saved not with bombs, but with doctors”.

We honor & celebrate the revolutionary spirit of the historic leader of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz. His vision of education, justice and international solidarity continues to inspire. We join our Cuban siblings to kick off a year-long celebration of his centenary 🎉

In contrast, Cuba, shortly after the 1959 Cuban revolution, established a medical diplomacy program–sending medical personnel overseas as a symbol of solidarity with the world, primarily to Latin America, Africa, & Pacific island countries, & it is ongoing for over six decades.

As Martin Luther King jr proclaimed “The U.S. is the biggest purveyor of violence.” Through militarism, war and sanctions, US government administrations have historically contributed to the destruction of land and the impoverishment of the majority of humanity.

We stand with the Cuban people and reaffirm our solidarity during this economic crisis! We demand: allow remittances and end the blockade!

U.S. Department of State Suspends Remittances to Cuba 💸 In a move meant to further paralyze the Cuban economy & crush its people, the Trump admin enacted a sudden suspension of remittances, ending the ability of Cubans working abroad to send money to their families back home.

We must realize our collective power to defend our rights and fight against the imposed injustices of a tyrant & oppressive economic and political system. We must organize & fight for the liberation of our people. We must for all we need & deserve, & must not settle for less.

It was faith groups in the 1980s that declared churches as sanctuary space for refugees that pushed the Sanctuary Movement. We will continue our movement not only for sanctuary but also for full dignity!

These attacks are not new & we will not back down in the fight for justice. Our communities, organizations, churches, and schools will continue to stand united in the way, opening our doors for the people, not for ICE.
