@IfrahFoundation
Ifrah Foundation works for the elimination of FGM in Somalia, founded by Ifrah Ahmed (Somali/Irish) one of the world’s foremost campaigners on FGM.

A revolution is happening across Africa: hundreds of local women are changing minds on FGM - at average of 79%. Grassroots women are delivering real change on-the-ground with the Born Perfect Campaign. Impact results from the Liberia pilot campaign in February 2026 are here: 85% of those who recall the Born Perfect Bus Tour pilot said it changed their minds about FGM. See the Liberia Impact Study here 👉 globalmediacampaign.org/liberia-impact… The pilot, funded by @Irish_Aid and @UN_Women , shows that when local activists travel into remote communities, tell people that FGM is unnecessary, illegal, and harmful to their daughters, parents listen. Next, the Born Perfect Caravans and media campaigns are launching in Somalia, led by frontline women at the @IfrahFoundation . More than 230 million girls and women alive today have undergone FGM. Ending this harmful practice requires community-led change, education, and the leadership of women and girls. Through partners like UNICEF, Denmark remains committed to protecting women’s rights and ending FGM.

A Major Step for Somalia: German Embassy Backs Born Perfect Caravans to End FGM and Reduce Maternal Mortality. The German government has committed direct support for the cross-border Born Perfect Caravans - helping ensure that funding reaches the local women’s organisations leading the fight to end FGM in Somalia and the Somali regions of Kenya; Wajir and Garissa. In parts of Somalia and neighbouring counties in Kenya, over 90% of women have undergone FGM, often sewn up by Type III (infibulation). The consequences are devastating: women in these regions are 130 times more likely to die giving birth than women in London. This new support will flow through the @IfrahFoundation , founded by veteran women’s rights activist Ifrah Ahmed, who has spent over 15 years working to end FGM in Somalia. It will also partner with sister frontline organisations in Wajir and Garissa, Kenya. As Ifrah Ahmed puts it: “Laws banning FGM are meaningless if no one knows they exist. This funding will ensure that every village in the region hears the message that FGM is against the law.” Through the Born Perfect Caravans - developed by the Global Media Campaign - frontline partners will lead cross-border outreach and local media campaigns, ensuring no village is left behind. The Born Perfect Campaign is already active in four African countries - Kenya, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia and Sierra Leone - channelling funding directly to local women leading change in their communities. While frontline women's organisations continue to receive less than 3% of donor funding, the Born Perfect Caravans have been supported by partners including the European Union, Iceland, Ireland, UN Women, the Wallace Global Fund, and now Germany. #EndFGM #BornPerfectCaravans #FundFrontlineWomen #MaternalHealth #LocalLeadership
