@ScottMWest It really is one of those special films. It's fun seeing Hopper in his first leading role exhibiting the same characteristics that he'd use in future films.

#NRW Night Tide (dir. Curtis Harrington, 1961) Dennis Hopper's first leading role is a stunner, & probably my favourite Harrington film. Harrington was an iconoclast with a deep love of cinema. His work would influence the New Queer movement, even tho he hated such labels

@Bob_Scott74 Ohhhh. Interesting. It is extremely dated. And that, fot me, is kinda the appeal now that wasn't there years prior. What did u prefer about it when u first saw it over now?

#NRW Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows (dir. Joe Berlinger, 2000) Not seen this in many, many years. Can remember not hating it even though it was a poor sequel. Time to see if time has been kind to it.

Just finished recording a great discussion on Conan The Barbarian with frontman of Greek doom metallers Acid Mammoth, Chris Babalis. Episode dropping in a few weeks. Make sure to give Acid Mammoth a spin if you've not listened to them before!🍻

@RihnAndrew It's odd. Is it scary? No. Creepy? No. Is a worthy sequel? No. But with time, it's become emblematic of that period of pop culture. The alt scene. The music. The new embrace of digital culture. It works better now that it did circa 2000, bcos of those reasons.

@ifwtpod I love the Blair Witch series/universe. Hadn’t actually watched this one until just a few years ago. Plenty of flaws, plenty of (mostly unrealized) potential. Same with the reboot. Neither of them execute with the fidelity of original.

@Skullgrin140 Very true. We were long sold that suffering was part of being an artist. It's what made thm special. It's myth. & has caused much destruction. An1 going thru suffering is too ill to create. Look at Lynch. (Relative) piece of mind Not an addict. Our generations leading surrealist

@ifwtpod Once upon a time we used to look up and admire the celebrity lifestyle, having now seen it for what it actually is it's not all that's cracked up to be. Especially if 99.9% of it is just overdosing and causing more harm to yourself that already wasn't there before.

@Skullgrin140 I agree man. It's been such a repetitive narrative from at least the 70s. It no longer has the shock or awe factor. I feel culturally we got the last grasp of it with shows like Californication and Entourange. Which were essentially Boomer fantasies.

@ifwtpod Not really. I think the entire aura of the Hollywood lifestyle celebrity or not has completely lost its appeal especially when there's anything associated with drugs. Falling into that trap and trying desperately to get out of it is difficult.

Short piece I wrote over on Instagram regarding Natura Contro, better known in English as 'The Green Inferno', released more than 20 years before Eli Roth would release his own Cannibal movie with the same title.

@CoyHallBooks That's true. even his westerns such as Bullet For A General. Maybe not an outright revolutionary, but certainly one fighting against the corruption of Italy during that period.

@CoyHallBooks For sure. Poliziotteschi's wrte often accused of siding woth the fascists during that period. I guess they were reactionary in the way Dirty Harry was in the States.
