@jojoldn but i feel like a lot things now won't even have long term impact and it's based on old things that we keep recycling. it's a weird period rn to me where we've seen so much cultural growth in the last 60/70 years it's at a point where all of that has become kinda overwhelming

there was a point in time where a lot of media and creative output dreamt about the future. flying cars, robots, techno-minimalism… the lot.
maybe we’re disappointed that the future didn’t turn out how we dreamt it to be

all criticism of new gen artists’ use of nostalgia has overlooked that the very fact itself that so many find themselves looking backwards for inspo & ideas says so much abt the zeitgeist. it acc reflects a lot about the current state of the world & how this gen feels in response

@jojoldn read an article a while back on this topic. its sad how a lot of things nowadays aren't original i always think of what will be the "throwback" to the 2020s art wise in 20/30 years time like we look at the 70s 80s or 90s and just can't think of what it'll look like
