For Rwandans, saying only “Rwandan Genocide” can blur the truth about who the victims were and open the door to misunderstanding or denial of the facts. By naming the Tutsi explicitly, the term preserves historical accuracy, honors the victims, and helps prevent distortion or minimization of what happened. If you cannot use the full and accurate term “1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda,” you should avoid speaking about it in a way that misrepresents its history.

As we mark the 7 days of commemoration for the victims of the Rwandan Genocide, show respect. Parties and celebrations can wait. The world once ignored us. these days are for remembrance and reflection. Rwandans everywhere, be mindful of your actions and posts.

I am really disappointed and irritated with the way young people (youth) have come to dismiss what it means to take a week of Kwibuka. It is disappointing to see us behave as though we don't have awareness of what's happening and the depth that Kwibuka holds. Shame!
