@jesipr @I_Grover We won't know for a while. The chicks will stay with mom and dad for about two months longer. We will hopefully be able to re-sight the chick at some point as they have unique colored band combinations. But at this point, it's all up to them. 🤞

Our trap-cams let us capture some incredible moments. Here we caught the first timid flight of one of our wild #iguaca chicks. After a little contemplation, the chick takes a leap of faith into the great unknown. His parents stay by his side the entire time. #IguacaBreeding2021

@kappa_bird @merdocrata Don't worry! That's actually purple vegetable dye. We use it to mark chicks until they're old enough to band.

@merdocrata @iguacachick I was wondering that too! The red bumps look almost like someone was pecking at the poor thing.

Team Iguaca member, Roxi, seems quite pleased to find a lint-covered gumball inside a parrot nest. Upon closer inspection, it seems to be a pair of extra cuddly #iguaca babies. Chicks this young can't thermoregulate, but they can snuggle for warmth when mom is out of the nest.

Here's some nice trap-cam footage from one of our wild #iguaca nests. 🦜 You can see the male feeding the female just before she climbs inside to feed the kids. If you listen closely you can hear the chicks excitedly welcome her back! 🐥🐥🐥 #IguacaBreeding2021

Long time no update. But I'm happy to report that our #iguaca chicks are still thriving. Check out our newly banded chicks showing off their leg bling-bling. Each chick gets a unique color and number combination.

Who's ready for a new bebeh season update! Our oldest chicks just reached their 20th day. So far we have: 🐣 40 chicks in captivity 🐣 34 chicks in the wild Still, several nests to go so keep those fingers crossed for a record-smashing #IguacaBreeding2021 season 🤞

I have two new items for my bucket list. #1: I want to see iguaca parrots and meet @iguacachick and her colleagues preventing the extinction of these amazing birds. #2 I would love a piano lesson from Elton John. Seeing iguaca in person is the higher priority.

#HabemusHuevus 🥚 The #iguacas at Rio Abajo have laid the 1st eggs of the #IguacaBreeding2021 season. The 1st egg was laid on Feb 11 by one of our wild nesting pairs. Eggs take 26-28 days to hatch. If all goes well, we can expect our first chicks by the 2nd week of March! 🐣
