Reports say that Zanu PF Chegutu councillor Gift Konjana has been found dead. Konjana was an MDC Alliance candidate in the 2018 elections before later joining Zanu PF. He went missing under unclear circumstances at the end of February 2026, and his family reported the case to Pfupajena Police Station. Since then, his family had been searching for him until his body was discovered. A WhatsApp screenshot circulating on social media, from a group called Alaska Legends, shows a message sharing the news with other members. Konjana was also part of this group. The cause of death is not yet known. More details are expected to follow.

Paul Tungwarara, President Emmerson Mnangagwa's investment adviser and chairman of Prevail Group International, is at war with land owners in the Mazowe areas over his controversial riverbed mining rehabilitation project. Tungwarara has been awarded an exclusive, controversial contract for a national "Presidential River Rehabilitation Programme". The project, which began with pilot schemes in the Mazowe district, is officially intended to combat siltation and rehabilitate rivers affected by mining activities across the country. Tungwarara’s Prevail Group was granted sole rights for the project, by-passing competitive bidding processes and drawing criticism for creating a monopoly. The project is designed to tackle siltation and environmental damage, particularly focusing on desilting rivers in Mashonaland Central and other areas, reportedly targeting areas previously mined by Chinese companies. It has been expanded nationally. The deal has attracted significant scrutiny amid accusations that it is a front for unauthorised, lucrative mining of gold from riverbeds under the guise of rehabilitation.
