Day 1 of the VACS Learning Tour kicked off with a visit to Seed Co research centre , where Fellows explored hybrid seed development, including trial set-up and management. Well-managed trials equals quality data, leading to better breeding decisions. Fellows also learned about: ·       Doubled haploid technology for faster hybrid development ·       Disease screening in breeding programs ·       Molecular tools for seed purity and quality assurance Strong systems are key to delivering better varieties to farmers. #VACS #Agriculture #Innovation

From 13–17 April, Fellows from National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS) across IITA focus countries are participating in a learning tour in Zimbabwe under the Vision for Adapted Crops and Soils (VACS) Breeding Project.  The tour is designed to strengthen practical knowledge, foster collaboration, and expose participants to innovative agricultural systems that can be adapted across their respective countries.  Through engagements with partners such as Seed Co and the Community Technology Development Organization, Fellows are gaining hands-on insights into seed systems, innovation, and scaling approaches.  By building the capacity of researchers and practitioners, the tour is helping to accelerate the adoption of improved agricultural technologies—ultimately improving productivity, strengthening seed systems, and enhancing farmer livelihoods across the region.
