The best thing I ever did for myself that has helped me survive hard times, is being excited and happy about things that makes absolutely no sense.
For example the rain, my favorite weather, and I am lucky enough to live in a country where it sometimes rain even during dry season, anytime I start to see the weather change or get cloudy I get so excited no matter how terrible the day is. Lily, a friend of mine calls me the rain antenna
If you’ve ever had any convo with me about myself I never fail to mention how much I love the rain
But that’s just one of it, this sounds stupid but I get excited when my phone battery is fully charged, I don’t know why, I get more excited trying out new recipes and they come out nice
I get so happy going on evening walks
I get so excited hopping on a call with my cousins to mock our parents and laugh
I pick a new book that I’m not gonna finish and get so excited,
Shit the sky being blue in the evening excites me, sometimes I put a chair in front of the flowers in my apartment, and amuse myself imagining how little it use to be before I started watering it
As much as boxing tests my strength I get so happy when I finish a training, or play tennis or watch others play,
I like to take pictures of beautiful landscapes, I get disappointed when the picture doesn’t capture what I see with eyes, I get excited when the pictures are clean.
Point is I made sure and early enough to surround myself with things that brings me happiness that doesn’t have a price tag on some of it or rather a lot of it.
Why? So that by the time I get rich/wealthy my happiness is not dependent on what I can afford and when I get depressed my happiness is dependent on things my hand can reach even when I’m penniless 🫶🏾
