In a world of useful AI chat bots and agents, the need and usefulness of many existing modalities will be challenged. Take browsers and payment flows. Today, if you need “something”, you use a browser and search for it. You then go to that site, load up your cart and then check out, putting in your payment details. Tomorrow, you can just tell the AI what you roughly need. It will then go out, do all the hard work of comparison and search and deliver you an elegant summary of the results so you can click on everything you want. Then an agent will load up all of those carts on your behalf. It will also take your payment credentials and check out. But in the second step, xAI, OpenAI etc will just keep your payment details on file for you and simply write the transaction over stablecoins to the site in question. My prediction here is that the AI Chatbot is becoming the front door of the internet much faster than we realize. It will subsume many existing behaviors. Inasmuch, these new front doors will render things like browsers and payment services relatively useless within 2-3 years.
