Call to Youth and Call for Action:
Many young people across the hill states of our country are speaking in one voice : enough is enough. Using music, drama, skits, reels, posts, videos, AI, Insta and what you have - they are all deeply concerned with the pattern of construction, tourism and development that stands at our doorsteps to devour humanity and leave pain, death and destruction in its wake.
I know that people too are making many mistakes. Yet, just as the father/mother duo have the largest responsibility on their shoulders to steer their families; it is the central and state govts that are responsible to ensure the safety and security of their people.
It is wrong, in fact cruel & absolutely condemnable in my view, that when vikas will happen some hiccups will happen too (this was recently stated by an Uttarakhand MP). Keeping this in mind, what policies and laws are we coming up with and most importantly, how are these implemented on ground becomes most vital apart from putting brakes on reckless model of construction that has become a hallmark of the current spell of disasters.
What do we do next? I think that you, the young ones of this country, need to unite and express your sense of insecurity, your sense of despair and your sense of agony to the ones who matter the most. I hope that some young folks reading this post will come up with the idea that they assemble across the Himalayan cities and towns and villages in groups of twos/threes/fives/tens/twenties/fifties/hundreds and speak in one voice on an agreed day/time and demand course correction from these current practices.
It's also a question that can this continue as it is? Is it ok to just put all blame on the rains and the landslides and do nothing to mitigate and adapt? Is massive course correction not required? Is it OK to indulge in disaster washing (I am coining this word right here, akin to green washing)
Finally, thanks to @ijuhising Juhi Singh and Prajwal. I got this video on my Twitter feed and found out that Juhi is from Jammu. Keep it up. God bless us all!
