Who uses word????
Serious question.
Since Google docs came out that is all I used, who is paying to write word documents?

1729 kids don’t ask where the edge is
they just keep walking till it shows up
for a while it feels like nothing tbh
no signal, no real feedback, nothing to hold onto
then you start noticing where others stop
that line they don’t cross, that’s the edge
not because it’s impossible
just because they decided it is
and by the time you really see it
you’re already a little past it

you in an F1 car is not the
same as an F1 driver in one
only applicable if they’re
good/the best at what they do

yeah I get that
I dropped out of engineering mid way, but didn’t lose the environment, just stopped paying for the degree
I had enough conviction to back myself, so I stayed around, explored few ideas, figured things out on my own terms while still having a diverse social life
my point is, it’s scary for a 17-18 year old to think about not going to college when they were programmed to orient their whole lives till that point to get a degree so they can get a job, and not everyone finds it easy to meet people or build that environment on their own
it should culturally be normal to drop out or not enroll into uni to begin with and I know it’s far better rn than it was 5-10 years ago because most of my peers never went to Uni or never completed it and they’re doing pretty well in their lives

Probably speaking to different people. Where i come from most of our need/desire to be in college or to get a degree is out of survival. The luxury of "paid for proximity, chaos, people, momentum" does not exist. You get suckered into this bullshit and then get stuck with nothing or just "had a good time and enjoyed my 20s" for an achievement
"you’re not learning or expanding your human experience" - also is crazy that you need to be in debt or spend years in a box to achieve this. Which i believe is not true. I did get my Master's but spent most of that time building businesses, talking to clients across the world, while also studying and working a job. This was while being in debt and having miserably low paycheques to keep myself afloat and i wouldn't replace any of it. If i see this in an early 20yo ik for a fact they'll figure life out an deserve better than being stuck in college.
I can't squeeze in nuance in a simple short post so here's the nuance:
1. If you are not high agency and just need structure to help figure life out or need to buy time or need to pay to have access to whatever social setting that hopefully shapes you. College is for you. Do it by all means.
2. If you struggle to see the merits of college and you are doing just cause it's the more tried and tested path you are doing yourself a disservice
I am extremely opinionated on what's good for an early 20 year old today. They can take it or leave it based on their circumstance. I hope to offer an alternative to those that seek

Going to convince at least one more student to drop out of a professional degree, use the money to stack bitcoin over the years, use claude extensively to ship and be a part of Internet Capital Markets
Your degrees are useless, anything you learn in college is useless, anything you do get good at will quickly be done better by a new model
Your only edge is your tenacity
Also if your cope is “ai can never do my job” you are in for a rude awakening. I just know that anything ai models can do, i can use it to my advantage for the rest of my life. It’s exciting!

ignorance is bliss ig
pretending SpaceX or Elon's other org's didn’t force a step change in launch cost, cadence, and getting the us off roscosmos is just cope tbh
