Left my job making games to make a game. Going to post on this thread every day until the game is done.

the top 1% researchers in the West: in the "jupyter notebooks" mines, 1000 levels of abstraction away from computers and hardware, crafting&pondering on pytorch slop, unlimited funding from VCs and corpos with even less taste the bottom 1% of non-West researchers: not from academia, actual computer goblins, real affinity to computer and deep dislike for mountains of slop libraries between them and "the objective" (make computer do fast tensor ops), face severe constraints bc they live in the third world so have to actually squeeze every bit they can wow.... I would NEVER have expected that the rest of the world would catch up to the great West!!!!!!

@bruno_simon it looks like you need to smoothe the normals after the displacement?

Has anyone ever fixed this triangles issue when displacing? More subdivisions is not an option

@cmuratori Jonathan Blow's joke was already too technical for most programmers, yours took it to the 99 percentile

@Hasen_Judi yup, this is exactly what I do in my startups: in code reviews in the beginning, in a call, as PRs are just flawed static analysis, then trust the engineer to do their job once they are onboarded

PRs should be reserved for people you don't fully trust yet: - Junior programmers still learning the ropes - New team members not yet familiar enough with the system -External contributors Intermediate and Senior programmers should just commit to master and push

@Hasen_Judi You don’t think PRs should be a thing?

Here is the full video from Mark Zuckerberg announcing the end of censorship and misinformation policies. I highly recommend you watch all of it as tonally it is one of the biggest indications of "elections have consequences" I have ever seen

@Jonathan_Blow When I'm just trying new voices or want to generate small snippets I just use their "Text to Speech" section

Yeah the "Projects" feature is the one to use if you want to work with an ongoing document and multiple voices. You do have to do it all in their editor though, which is not great, but only option I know short of writting your own thing using the API. After creating a new project you can start typing and you can assign characters to text and hit play to play the audio. When you're ready to download the whole thing you click Convert on the top right and go from there.

I asked this question like 6 months ago, but progress may have changed the answer: What's the best way to do AI-generated temporary voice for a game, including dialog between different characters? (We will of course record the final VO with real human performances.)

this paragraph summarizes the blog post, and the entire Rust ecosystem, imo "Rust as both language and community is so preoccupied with avoiding problems at all cost that it completely loses sight of what matters, delivering an experience that is so good that whatever problems are there aren't really important."

This seems like a very well-thought-out essay regarding the author's experience using Rust for game development (I am partway through reading; it's long!) loglog.games/blog/leaving-r…
