@LukeW They are more like slot machines. you start great, then uncover a bug, but together you solve it & move forwards & get ever closer to the finish line, but in ever decreasing increments, but as long as you see progression, you keep putting coins in the slot, buying credits

I hear a lot of developers and designers describe the current generation of AI coding tools as "addictive" "video game-like". why? progression is a hell of a drug.

Never been a fan of podcasts. Am a huge fan of audio conversations about whatever you want with LLMs. It’s a massive use case that seems under promoted. Especially when you’ve a 8 month old and trying to keep screens to an absolute min Just wish there was an specific apple Watch app for it

I'm so frustrated at being a parent in this garbage digital age. I hate short-form video. TikTok / YouTube trash is just pure brain-rot and I can't stand it. I try to keep my kids away from it. I gave them access to Spotify b/c I want them to enjoy music and develop their musical tastes and personalities. That was working pretty well. They would go onto Spotify on the XBox and listen to music and explore that space. Good for them. But what does Spotify do? They put short form videos into their app. Now my kids are watching the videos instead of listening to the music. I have to decide if I have to take Spotify away from them (along with all their playlists) because Spotify pulled this bait-and-switch on me and turned an app that I felt good about giving to my kids into another brain-rotting platform of garbage. Every month something like this happens. It's impossible to navigate this as a parent, even if you're largely on top of things. It's exhausting and dispiriting.

@tomfgoodwin You lingered a little to long on a little too many of those posts so they think you interested and so post more and you linger a little too long and so on it goes… I suggest doing a search for table tennis and watch a few amazing rallies to break the cycle

My instagram feed is now just suggested content. Most of which is "hot women" , that all happen to look the same. EXACTLY the same., Maybe AI will take these jobs because people became robotically the same, either thought surgery, filters, or/and a lack of imagination

AI is starting to feel ever more Web3 . Lots of chat rather removed from the reality, getting ever more abstract and hyperbolic as the money drives rhetoric. It’s far from Web3 , it’s much more profound but the silliness is alarming

Trends decks should probably go out every 5 years. And make them tech, people, culture, demographics, politics, economics and more Not the silly stuff we get about what to learn from hawk tuah and a pop up shop in Williamsburg, and 3 things my friends all did

So what are 2025 trends that were not trends in 2022, 2023 or 2024? I can't think of any, it's just the same stuff a little bit further down the road Yep, buying from social media is a big thing, Yep, commerce is democratized and anyone with an audience is a shop. Yep, Gen AI can make stuff Yep, TV is now streaming. Yep, QR codes are popular now. Yep, the wealth gap is growing Yep, Ozempic is big, just now called Wegovy Yep, young people are acting like young people. Yep, people are trying to be healthier Yep, people are lonely. Yep, old people live longer and people have dogs not kids Yep, the middle of retail is dying, stores are fine, luxury is wavering. Yep, we have culture wars and division What's actually that new? or worth talking about?

The difference between the promise of adtech and the reality ( today) , never cease to amaze me. It's absolutely bananas.

Default Folder X from @stclairsoft is a Mac utility that enhances the Open/Save dialog boxes. The key feature is its "rebound function," which automatically remembers the last accessed folder for each application. Read my review at mausereviews.wordpress.com

Something to look for: Greek yogurt Made by straining regular yogurt to remove whey and other liquids, resulting in a thicker, tangier, & more protein-rich yogurt. Greek-style yogurt Made by processing yogurt with thickeners & gums to give it a similar texture to Greek yogurt.

Wow, so Foursquare is shutting down the Foursquare app, but keeping the Swarm app… I remember when the Swarm app was the Foursquare app and they split off the Swarm app to enable them to concentrate on the Foursquare app, it looks like people preferred using the Swarm app.

Irony corner. An email arrives, teasing me with “we’ve sent you a little something to read” and as it’s my “advance notice of Derisking IP”, you can hardly blame me for enthusiastically clicking the link. But I don’t have permission to access it! Oh no: am I now at risk from IP?
