We had a great session on ocean ecosystems and biogeochemical cycles at #EGU24! I am very happy that so many great scientists presented and participated in the audience ❤️ I didn’t manage to talk to half of you as much as I should like ;) so I hope you will be back next year!

More countries expressing concern in the mitigation scenarios assessed by the IPCC. They are calling for a paradigm shift, which suggests the problem is not fixable by just running the same models slightly differently? africanarguments.org/2024/04/modell…

Last day of #egu24 and there’s still lots of exciting presentations and posters which I could not attend. Surviving a whole week of intensive networking is not easy for predominantly introvert, somewhat socially awkward, nerdy geoscientists.

Our model results based on ICON-Coast with higher telescopic spatial resolution in the coastal ocean areas, confirm this finding initially deduced from observational products. 3/4

Here's a thread in pictures about the Atlantic overturning circulation #AMOC which is making headlines this week. I've studied this topic since 1991 and will show key data and models & some video. Let's go: observed temperature trend since 1901 from nature.com/articles/nclim… 🧵1/x

Of course decarbonisation will be a hassle, change always is But I'm happy to shift to heat pumps, plant-based burgers and holidays by train if it means avoiding a hellish future

@richardabetts @_david_ho_ But then it starts behaving like a ‘normal’ open ocean, with CO2 fluxes being seasonally regulated by biology/nutrient availability and the strength of the vertical mixing.
