The issue of blocking school textbooks for Albanian students in Preshevë, Bujanoc, and Medvegjë. Presheva Valley, is an old and sensitive problem concerning the right to education in their native language for the Albanian community. ​The continuous obstruction by the Serbian Customs of school books arriving as donations from Kosova and Albania has been a persistent major obstacle. ​ ​Albanian representatives describe this situation as a form of state discrimination and forced assimilation. The denial of access to educational materials in the native language severely weakens the connection of the younger generations to: ​Their Culture and History. ​The Albanian Language, especially through the lack of approved textbooks for identity subjects like History and Geography. ​The Blockade Extends Beyond Textbooks: Entire shipments of books destined for all Albanian students have been returned to Kosova or held in customs warehouses. Furthermore, cultural publications, magazines, and other cultural materials are often blocked, extending the problem beyond the educational system. ​ ​The European Commission's Progress Report e.g. 2023 and 2024 Report confirms that the rights of Albanians are being violated. The report highlights underrepresentation in state administration and the severe issue of passivization of addresses deletion from registers,a form of administrative ethnic cleansing, concluding that the institutional framework for protecting minorities remains incomplete. ​However, the international response to specific cases of textbook blockades has often been limited to formal statements urging the parties to find a solution, failing to exert sufficient pressure directly on Serbia. ​International bodies are aware of this issue and include it in their annual reports and dialogues with Belgrade. However, their reactions have not been strong or decisive enough to compel Serbia to quickly change its customs and educational policies. This effectively blocks the full integration and fundamental rights of the Albanian community. @EU_Commission

@noraleonora94 Our own blood has forgotten the daily struggles Albanians in Presheva face. Yet despite those struggles, the Albanian flag is still raised proudly. Presheva deserves more focus and support. We preserve Albanian heritage and identity stronger than many in Albania and Kosova.

I am happy about this news. After crimes, massacres, and ethnic cleansing, for over a century our brothers and sisters in the Presheva Valley have endured systematic oppression. In recent times, this has taken the form of institutional discrimination, from the erasure of registered addresses to the denial of the right to education in their mother tongue. Serbia has sought to erase their identity, their history, and their very existence from the lands of which they are indigenous. Today, after decades of injustice and enforced silence, their voice is finally being heard in the United States Congress through the new bill addressing this discrimination. I also hope that concrete measures will be taken to protect the rights of Albanians in North Macedonia. Today, Albanians there are facing a new and dangerous battle: an attempt to undermine the Albanian language and weaken their political and institutional representation.
