"If you scratch any Oromo, you find OLF." Meles Zenawi
He used this rhetoric to label the Oromo people as terrorists, justifying years of mass killings and systemic arrests. People used to be imprisoned just for having OLF flag in their homes.

I am pleased to share my latest article @EthiopiaInsight.
“Conflict Became Currency in Ethiopia’s Diaspora Media”
The article examines a painful but urgent reality: in parts of Ethiopia’s diaspora media ecosystem, conflict has become currency.
Outrage is rewarded. Trauma is repackaged as content. Public pain is converted into influence, fundraising, and factional relevance. What begins as political commentary can quickly become a machinery of suspicion, humiliation, and collective resentment.
The social fallout is serious. Families are divided. Communities are trapped in permanent grievance. Young people inherit hardened narratives before they inherit facts.
This is not a call to silence diaspora voices. It is a call to take them seriously. Media that speaks in the name of wounded communities has a moral responsibility not to deepen the wounds. It must inform without inflaming, criticize without dehumanizing, and advocate without turning pain into performance.
Ethiopia’s crisis is not only political. It is also informational, moral, and social. If we want a future beyond cycles of war and revenge, we must confront not only state propaganda, but also the informal media structures that turn conflict into currency.

Ethiopia backed African liberation movements especially the African National Congress in South Africa by offering refuge, military training, and even an Ethiopian passport to Nelson Mandela during apartheid. Through the Organization of African Unity, it provided diplomatic, financial, and logistical support across the continent, helping legitimize anti-colonial struggles from South Africa 🇿🇦 to Somalia 🇸🇴 solidarity some say has since been met with hostility toward Ethiopian migrants in South Africa.

In Johannesburg’s central business district, an Ethiopian national was shot at close range and killed by three men near the intersection of Jeppe and Von Wielligh streets. The killing comes amid renewed concern over a broader pattern of violence and intimidation targeting African migrants in parts of South Africa. Authorities have yet to announce arrests, and calls are mounting for those responsible to be swiftly brought to justice.

A sub-two hour marathon on debut ‼️
In the same race where Sabastian Sawe broke the marathon WR (1:59:30), Yomif Kejelcha also went sub-two to finish second in 1:59:41 🇪🇹
They become the only two people to ever run a sub-two marathon in a race & Kejelcha did it during his first-ever marathon 🤯
