@jarldietrich The Left's obsession with capital punishment is odd. In the United States last year, there were less than 50 executions. Yet, there were approximately one million abortions. By any reasonable measure, the overwhelming focus should be on abortion not capital punishment.

On the death penalty I think Pope Benedict, then Cardinal ratzinger, clarified it well when he basically said it was a prudential judgment by the pope that doesnt carry the same moral weight as topics such as euthanasia and abortion
"Not all moral issues have the same moral weight as abortion and euthanasia. For example, if a Catholic were to be at odds with the Holy Father on the application of capital punishment or on the decision to wage war, he would not for that reason be considered unworthy to present himself to receive Holy Communion. While the Church exhorts civil authorities to seek peace, not war, and to exercise discretion and mercy in imposing punishment on criminals, it may still be permissible to take up arms to repel an aggressor or to have recourse to capital punishment. There may be a legitimate diversity of opinion even among Catholics about waging war and applying the death penalty, but not however with regard to abortion and euthanasia."

What’s interesting about the Shrine of Knock is that the central figure is the Lamb of God. This is very rural land in County Mayo, and you’ll see sheep all over the place, so the dozens of witnesses to the apparitions of Knock would have been familiar with lambs. This Lamb, of course, is the central figure of all history! @thegnewsroom

I’ve gotten used to seeing crazy things on my phone screen. But wow. Impactful design of the child abuse database.

This is the child whose miraculous recovery opened the path to the beatification of Fulton Sheen.
James Engstrom, who was born in 2010, had a true knot in his umbilical cord that tightened during labor and cut off his oxygen supply, resulting in his stillbirth. His parents asked for the intercession of Fulton J. Sheen, and after remaining without a pulse for 61 minutes, the baby started breathing, which doctors said was not explainable by medical science.
