@watchingaerial I suppose I’m just hoping they don’t simply re-tread or do a pastiche. It should be something new with some of the foundations.
Kind of like Maverick being a fun leap from the original Top Gun aesthetic - leaning into digital in a cool way.

@imPatrickT I love 65 and glad people can play with it a lot more now, I just really love how the original show looks and am a little disappointed they decided not to lean into that, given the team’s visual flair.

look i love seeing people shoot large format film but this is such a bad idea for several reasons
1) it's an unnecessary expense for minimal (or negative) benefit over 35 for tv screens, which could have better gone to lighting, locations, effects, etc.

Ryan Coogler's pilot episode for his series reboot of THE X-FILES for Hulu has been shot on 65mm film by Academy Award winner Autumn Durald Arkapaw. Starring Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler as leads with a supporting cast including Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi and Ben Foster.

I’d really have preferred to see that team doing something new instead of playing with the IP, but at least they have a vision for it.

Of course it’s clean - but a Nolan IMAX 70MM release print is made without a DI. The DCP is a DI. The original source release for the IMAX print has a green line through a scene with Bernthal and Holland. I’ve seen it at 3 separate locations. Must have been an error they had to live with.

@pixalpixal @imPatrickT @HertzBarry I've seen the IMAX 1.43 DCP, it's pristine - no dust or scratches. From what I understand the DCP is mastered in parallel to the film prints so the footage comes from the original negatives

Notes re: THE ODYSSEY at Cineplex Vaughan IMAX 70mm:
-No pre-show except DUNE: PART 3 sequence (similar to, but not exactly, CinemaCon footage — and minus new trailer)
-Small scratch or dirt on print for few mins about hour in
-Staff cruelly turn on house lights when credits roll

@zoerosebryant the full dune prologue they showed us last week had me fucking flying. i'm actually pretty confident right now it's either gonna surpass odyssey or at least be on par.
we are eating GOOD.

as much as i want and hope for dune and denis villeneuve to finally get their due at the oscars i can’t blame the academy one bit if they just run it back with nolan because my body and soul literally feel forever altered after the odyssey lmao. a medium-defining masterwork.

@cinegent @miakhalifa not missing anything - it sounds better and clearer. i obviously did a bunch of trial and error to hear the difference before i started committing to it. these premium auditoriums are way too loud.

@trappedkrinkle dual laser IMAX is also 1.43 and it's incredible - especially for digitally shot IMAX films (project hail mary etc)
