This is true not just of Kolkata and Guwahati, but in varying degrees for all the grounds in India, and around the world. The system to put on covers and protect the ground from rain and remove them efficiently is still basically unchanged since the 70s.
Given that each IPL match is worth about Rs 115 crores just in media rights, probably 150 crores all told, there has to be a better way to do this.
We have the finest engineers, and most of them would be delighted to help. This is definitely solvable if the BCCI decides to go after it. And it probably should!

There is a shift happening in #IPL without people noticing, this is the probably the first season in IPL where there is a lot of talk around teams rather than Dhonis, Kohlis & Rohits, they are just quietly parts of their teams & doing their jobs. IPL is not an aberration anymore, it's a permanent fixture in the sporting calendar that people will watch & have a strong loyalty towards. Fan bases, which used to thrive in the name of Rohitians, Viratians & Thalasons, will soon be replaced by proper team fans, who will want the best for the team, above anything else. The sporting hatred towards rival franchises was always there but it will only grow, the modern day cricket fan won't worship your idols, even if it is Sachin Tendulkar, and their entire affinity will be to RCB, CSK, KKR or MI. As soon as franchises realise the concept of Home & Away jerseys, including fan groups & there are proper Fan TV channels, over the next few years, IPL will be unstoppable. IPL is magic, unlike any other thing cricket has seen, it's a cricketing revolution.

I'll forever regret our team not retaining Bhuvi. Three batters and him should've been retained may be. He is all time great. Rcb poached him at auction and their bowling got sorted out all of a sudden.

We live in a world where Jasprit Bumrah is a 'cheat code' and Bhuvi is just 'underrated.' Stop for a second. Bumrah is a genius, but Bhuvi just became the first fast bowler in history to hit 200 IPL wickets. He did it while holding the record for the most dot balls in the league. No one talks about him in the 'IPL 11' (all-time XI) because he doesn't bowl 150kph or stare down batters. He just gives you 4 overs of pure swing and 2 Purple Caps. If 200 wickets and being the Powerplay King isn't 'legendary' enough for your list, then your list is broken. Respect the Swing King
