@ima_dinger It does seem that there’s quite a lack of technical knowledge with their support these days. I’m curious about the ES payments; could you lump those together within the quarter or is there a strategy to enter each one individually?

@TexasDave24 2. Diagnostic about vehicle miles vs actual exp. Sent them the file. They never called back. They sent me two email responses that had nothing to do with my issue. I found my input error eventually. In the past they would have found my error in about a minute and let me know.

@TexasDave24 1. Client made eleven Fed estimated payments. The third input screen was not carrying to the 1040. CSR was clueless and trying to have me enter them as 2026 pmts.

I was supposed to have a 1:30 meeting, but it was canceled because the client slipped on the ice and broke some ribs but I don't feel like I can get any work done now because I was prepared not to work...

@FrancineHibiscs There is a ghost preparer near me (not CPA), I get the clients for a year here or there when there is something she doesnt want to handle, then they go back to her.

@TGorcz @JoshYoungblood Zero proof a licensing regime will make preparers more honest or thorough. This would be great for people who sell CE/CPE. The industry needs less barriers to entry. Just my opinion. The industry will do what it does best- screw everything up.

@ima_dinger @JoshYoungblood A licensing regime would enable the IRS to more easily enforce the rules. As of now, they have to go to federal court to get an injunction, or criminally charge someone.

Nina Olson, who is on the board for the Center for Taxpayer Rights, sent mystery shoppers to 53 non-credentialed preparer sites across six states during the 2025 filing season. The results were terrible. The vast majority of returns had incorrect filing statuses, wrong credit amounts, fabricated deductions, or unreported cash income. Refund amounts were wildly off. Preparers routinely failed to ask basic questions about household composition and income, and even when they did, they got the law wrong. Meanwhile, the IRS rarely penalizes bad preparers and collects less than 19% of the penalties it assesses. The report's core recommendation: Congress needs to finally authorize the IRS to require minimum competency testing and continuing education for non-credentialed preparers. This is worth a read! Thanks to @TGorcz for sharing the report. #TaxTwitter #EA #CPA #Taxes taxpayer-rights.org/wp-content/upl…

@ima_dinger In a previous article about service bureaus, I was quick to point out that mistakes and fraud occur across all types, and that some non-credentialed preparers know more than some credentialed preparers. Out of curiosity, are you interested in becoming credentialed?

@TGorcz @JoshYoungblood I disagree with required testing. Enforce the rules, dont add more rules. This is my opinion.

@ima_dinger @JoshYoungblood You disagree, as in the data is made up? The facts are the facts here - and yes, credentialed pros also make terrible errors, intentional and not intentional.
