@RichDecibels Recommend @clenchner - impressive resume of direct action and political organizing. Insights and discourse served with equal parts earnestness and sarcasm

@RichDecibels It’s not just here in this thread. I’m responding to a lot of posting I’m seeing along these lines.

@RichDecibels Love seeing people who are comfortably ensconced in the imperial core, or rich vassal states like Australia and NZ, lounging atop centuries of pillage, screaming at “Americans” to “do something”. This is a global phenomenon. Regime change in the US won’t stop what’s unfolding.

@gengelstein I guilty watch this. I don't like the guy. But he fails forward quickly. Season 2 seems like a good iteration so far, and distillation / amplification of what he already proved on YouTube. Feels like we're in the Running Man timeline, and this is the strain that evolves from.

@RichDecibels Just got back from Winterfest. Knew the drop was coming and planned accordingly. Lots of good conversations about low resource living and community living. Definitely feel myself reprioritising in this direction.

you cope with loneliness by being intensely dissociated then you come to a camp, drop your guard, get a taste of how good it feels to have sufficient social contact then you go home with the dissociation switched off and the comedown is bruuutal as you recognise what you lacked

@onward2waffles @imhaileycoop @spencerbeswick I'd say edited rather than repudiated, but her ongoing thinking about the implications of "The Left Hand of Darkness" is interesting. Have read the Odo essay – it's in a collection of her Hainish cycle stories I have.

Ursula Le Guin: “A child free from the guilt of ownership and the burden of economic competition will grow up with the will to do what needs doing and the capacity for joy in doing it. It is useless work that darkens the heart. 1/2

@iconoclassism @BruceRayCarr1 @spencerbeswick I think the reason I originally said communist was because of DivLab, which centrally assigns work. But I reckon a big part of the project of the book was to also show how philosophy (Odo) and culture can maintain the system without heavy central authority.

@DaveIrving99 @spencerbeswick Bold claim! I’ve read my fair share. I don’t agree. I’d say she’s definitely more on the side of Anarres for sure, but I think there’s also critique of that system to be found in the novel.

@spencerbeswick I agree with you folks re more anarchist. I found her exploration of Odonianism super compelling, including the necessary philosophical components, and the use of shame, to make it work. But I don’t think that it was her intention to argue that “this is an ideal system”.

@spencerbeswick This quote is from “The Dispossessed: An Ambiguous Utopia” in which Le Guin explores two parallel economic systems on two nearby planets. One is much like our current system, and one is closer to communism. It’s not necessarily a direct expression of the author’s beliefs.

@RichDecibels @imhaileycoop @limitoftruth Note: linguistic complexity does not mean "uses fancy vocabulary" or "sounds like a professor" - those measure perspectively relationship complexity via words and short phrases.

@imhaileycoop @limitoftruth so is the suggestion that everyone has about the same level of complexity and richness in their inner experiences? or the complexity of external expressions is uncorrelated to inner experience?

@RichDecibels @limitoftruth I’m with Iorena on this one. All you did was state the opposite of their point but you did it succinctly. It gains the appearance of an aphorism and gets likes. I think it proves their point.

@RichDecibels @KubaFYI I don’t think many of your thoughts are particularly novel but I still value them. You are talented at crystallising ideas and making your own experience a teachable example.

@RichDecibels Haha yup. Every time I resolve another issue the scope of my ambition shrinks. Thankfully I have more than enough issues to last me until retirement. It’s all timed out beautifully.
