An unpopular opinion of mine is that it’s actually fine to tell people to kill themselves if it’s understood to just be a rhetorical flourish against someone who you know isn’t about to kill themselves. I have literally said “kill yourself” lots of times (though I do it less now bc people are such babies about it) BUT own it. This professor isn’t owning it. She is not saying “look, I wasn’t literally telling you to kill yourself. I’m just old enough that I learned to say this in a time when everyone wasn’t always supposed to assume that one mean word would push someone to blow their brains out; I don’t think there is very good evidence that people saying things like “kill yourself” online has much connection to people actually killing themselves; and I so I still say “kill yourself” as a humorously escalated insult since it not only conveys my dislike of you but also my dislike for the moral panic about words being violence that defines this era. I don’t want to bow to to the norms of the HR brigade, but obviously I don’t want you to literally kill yourself.” Instead this professor is a coward and saying “no no no how dare you suggest I said what I said because I would never say that since saying it would in fact be violence”

@lawen4cer Aber nicht für ihn als Künstler, sondern für seine Staatsämter in Weimar. Schiller hatte zeitweise eine Geschichtsprofessur inne. Kein Literat der damaligen Zeit konnte von seiner künstlerischen Tätigkeit leben.
