“After the devastating storms of 1821, which led to nearly 2,000 shipwrecks and 20,000 lives lost, Bureau Veritas was established in 1828 to bring safety, trust, and accountability to the maritime world. There are only a few major, internationally recognised shipping classification societies like this in the world, organisations that ensure ships are safely built and properly maintained. In many ways, they are the guardians of safety at sea.” Back in 2010, while studying Marine Engineering, my faculty introduced us to classification societies. That was the first time I heard the name Bureau Veritas. During my job search, after countless rejections at shipping offices, while sailing on ships, and even in my wildest dreams, I never imagined that one day I would work for Bureau Veritas, the very organisation that upholds the standards and safety of ships and seafarers across the oceans. Life, however, had its own plans. On Monday, 5th January 2026, I joined Bureau Veritas, a world-leading classification society with nearly 200 years of legacy, as an Engineer Surveyor. From a boy born and brought up in a poor family, without privilege or “kudumba mahima” (as they say), to reaching this milestone, the journey was rough and not easy. Today, that long journey has led to this moment 🥹 Forever grateful to my family, friends, and everyone who stood by me during my hardest times, and to every experience, especially the difficult ones 🙏❤️
