...and that engaging with socio-political actions can look very different for different people. For me, and in light of events here this week, it means helping to defend my community both intellectually & physically, from uneducated fascists who are intent on violence & chaos.

I used to think that in order to be taken seriously as a scientist, I had to maintain a sense of impartiality and professionalism irl and online, avoiding controversy.
As I mature, I have come to appreciate that we simply cannot be separated from our lived experiences..

+1. If you choose to identify as a scientist, then my belief is that this comes with a responsibility to enact socio-political change. Your role as a scientist = trying to make the world a slightly better place for future generations, regardless of your domain of expertise.
