We don't talk about sanjay gandhi enough. To put into perspective he vasectomized almost 10% of India's men in the childbearing age. Some of the biggest population cullers in history. Assuming all of those 11 million vasectomized men would've gone to have 4 children (effective TFR of his period) each, he undid 44 million births, something even WW1 & Genghis Khan couldn't.

One incongruity is that while the USAF was able to retain the strategic bombing/missile/nuclear roles, it is imperative for India to separate this task from an IAF that will be severely platform constrained for the next decade.
The IAF will need to carve an identity that identifies it's place in the air domain separate of the rocket/strategic campaign. In this unmanned platforms and EW warfare must be absolutely central

Two sound reasons for IAF’s “sense of insecurity”: IN appropriation of MR role in 1976, & army takeover of AOP a decade later. USA too saw acrimony over aviation “Roles & Missions” & “Core Competencies”, but differences resolved by SecDef via Key West Agreement/1948 (look up).
