Before elections, they chanted "We stand with 1158." After elections, the same leaders shrug and say "It's a court issue." The mic changed, but the struggle didn't. These 1158 individuals didn't vote for excuses they voted for dignity, justice, and action. A promise made on a stage doesn't expire the moment the votes are counted. If you had the courage to take credit before elections, have the accountability to deliver after. Silence is not governance. Deflection is not leadership. The people are watching and they remember every word. 👇 Tag those responsible. Share until it reaches every corner of Punjab.

@opedtribune Special Sessions, Heavy Spending, Little Outcome: Punjab Assembly’s Costly Pattern Continues
By Satnam Singh Chahal
The repeated convening of special sessions by the Punjab Government has increasingly raised serious concerns about priorities and governance in the state. While such sessions are meant to address urgent issues and deliver results for the people, a pattern has emerged where crores of rupees are spent, yet the outcomes remain limited or purely symbolic. The financial burden on the already strained state exchequer continues to grow, raising questions about accountability.
In recent years, the Punjab Legislative Assembly has been called into special sessions multiple times under the pretext of urgency. However, instead of producing concrete policy decisions or long-term solutions, many of these sessions have turned into platforms for political speeches and confrontations. Administrative arrangements, security deployments, and logistical costs for each session run into crores, but the benefits to the common citizen remain unclear.
A look at the timeline reveals this trend clearly. In September 2022, a special session was convened amid political turmoil and allegations linked to Operation Lotus. The focus remained on countering political threats rather than governance outcomes. In October 2022, another session was called to project stability and strength, yet it largely revolved around speeches without addressing core issues facing Punjab.
In March 2023, during a budget session, discussions again drifted toward political confrontation rather than economic solutions. Over 2024 and 2025, several short-duration sessions were convened, often dominated by political narratives, allegations, and counter-allegations. Despite the repeated gatherings, there has been little evidence of transformative decisions that directly improve the lives of citizens.
Now, the Aam Aadmi Party-led government has convened another special session on May 1, once again focusing on Operation Lotus. This session is expected not only to address alleged attempts to destabilize the government but also to demonstrate the strength and unity of AAP MLAs. The political intent behind the session appears evident.
However, Punjab continues to face serious challenges, including rising debt, unemployment, agrarian distress, and law-and-order concerns. Many believe that repeated sessions centered on political messaging are diverting attention from these pressing issues. The people of Punjab expect governance, not just political theatre.
As another costly session approaches, the fundamental question remains whether this exercise will deliver meaningful outcomes or simply add to the list of expensive yet unproductive gatherings. The need of the hour is not just debate, but decisive action that addresses the real concerns of the state and its people.
