FORUM-ASIA joins rights groups in renewing the call for the immediate and unconditional release of Khurram Parvez on his 48th birthday today. A globally respected #humanrights defender, Khurram has spent over three and a half years in arbitrary detention under India’s draconian UAPA. His case—declared unlawful by the UN—reflects the broader criminalisation of human rights work in Indian-administered Kashmir. On this day, instead of celebrating, Khurram remains behind bars for his unwavering commitment to justice and truth. We call on the Indian government to release Khurram, Irfan Mehraj, and all defenders jailed for their human rights work, and to stop misusing counter-terror laws to silence dissent. #Indonesia🇮🇩 Today, April 10, 2025, Gerakan Masyarakat Sipil Adili Soeharto (GEMAS) submitted an open letter to the Ministry of Social Affairs to express its firm rejection of the proposal to grant Suharto the title of National Hero. During his 32-year authoritarian rule, Suharto was responsible for: 1) The 1965–66 mass killings, which led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people 2) Enforced disappearances and torture of political opponents and activists 3) Widespread and systematic human rights violations 4) Deep-rooted corruption, collusion, and nepotism that undermined democratic institutions This proposal is not only misguided, but also constitutes an attempt to erase historical truths and whitewash state crimes. It is a grave insult to the victims and their families who continue to fight for truth, justice, and reparation. #NotMyHero
