It’s that time of year again where I send a PSA: med students if you’re rotating or interviewing at a program look to see where residents went to med school AND REACH OUT TO THOSE WHO WENT TO YOUR SCHOOL. *sigh*

@topknife And when PCPs are given the respect and $$ given to other specialties, maybe we can help bridge this gap. Everyone needs one, no one wants to be one. 😔

@InduPartha I knew I was likely going to be doing a lot of training, so I carefully planned/was incredibly 🍀 to have my son during MS4. My family & friends are still convinced he was unplanned. He is now 7, and I am *nearly* done with training and looking forward to traveling with my 👦

@PIAEKGdoc1 @olsonplanner I have a lot of respect for APPs, but unlike the thought of many who feel they can handle the same breadth of dz that Fam Med and GIM can, I disagree. There is not enough time in an APP training to introduce them to the variety of problems we learn to handle in an IM Residency.

@olsonplanner Physician training many 1000s of hours >APN/PA. Can’t compare the training. Need experts in multiple areas/specialties that MLP (mid-level providers) are not equipped to provide. You need broad knowledge base in PC to be able to handle everything that comes through.

Why are people still going the medical school route to work in primary care?

🧵Asked on IG if ppl were noticing, like I was, that there seem to be more people opting to not have children. This was a huge departure from when I was in my 20s and 30s, when it just seemed like that is what everybody did. #Childless (1/6)

I think that book “I Don’t Know How She Does It” (pub 2002) fueled a lot of the “you can have it all” falsehood. Thoughts? What trends in #parenthood are you seeing? #WomenInMedicine (6/6)

She thought ppl (esp women) are more cognizant of the amt of work it takes to raise kids & poss secondary harm to career. Women now look around and think if they do everything, something’s gotta give, and they don’t want that something to be themselves. (5/6)
