@FiddyCalibre @infoholicuk @Halcruttenden I don't give a shit what Americans say. Again - fannies, pants, crisps, rubbers and suspenders have entered the conversation. If you're American, that's fine. But if you're British, then you know it's bullshit.

@Petersbrooking @FiddyCalibre @Halcruttenden It's an American talking about the UK. And they don't recognise your nitpicking. Detention by the state is detention by the state. And the UK is a massive outlier, and possibly only the Aussies and Canadians are more crazy than we are at this point, albeit in different areas.

@FiddyCalibre @infoholicuk @Halcruttenden But he's talking about Britain so whatever his definition might be, it's bullshit. It's what what I want jail to mean. It's what it literally means. Because funnily enough, to quote David Bowie, this is not America.

@Petersbrooking @infoholicuk @Halcruttenden It’s because you want jail to mean being sentenced to a HM prison service establishment. That isn’t what it means. You’re misunderstanding the basics of language. Remember, RFK is American. Jail is definitely police custody.

@Petersbrooking @Halcruttenden And you're trying to say it doesn't count if you get arrested and detained and dragged through the courts for months if not years and eventually don't get a jail sentence. I'm saying the process matters.

@infoholicuk @Halcruttenden A prison is a fucking prison. Like a big building where people serve *prison sentences*. You are trying to redefine it to mean spending twenty minutes in a police station because, well, you're an idiot.

@infoholicuk @Halcruttenden The original tweet was about people going to jail. You know what a prison is, don't you? Your definition did not align with what Kennedy was saying.

@infoholicuk @Halcruttenden So you are defining incarceration as whatever you define it as. Incarceration is a prison sentence by anyone else's definition other than yours. And, actually, no. Unless you count spending five minutes in a police van as incarceration.

@Petersbrooking @Halcruttenden First paragraph. "If you’re arrested, you’ll usually be taken to a police station, held in custody in a cell and then questioned." Cus-to-dy

@infoholicuk @Halcruttenden No they do not. I was arrested many years ago. There was no custody and no charge. You're talking bullshit. There isn't the capacity to incarcerate everyone arrested. You're being ridiculous.

@infoholicuk @Halcruttenden To paraphrase Edward Gibbon, many arrests don't lead to a charge, many charges don't lead to a conviction and many convictions don't lead to prison. So you're talking cobblers.
