I’m worried that too few MPs debating the #Tobacco & Vaping Bill have informed themselves sufficiently about the benefits of vaping. This should be required reading ncsct.co.uk/library/view/p…

@inijames @Vaping_Industry Thanks. It's still true vaping isn't being banned. Law changes tackle environmental damage, and new youth nicotine addiction. Vapes needn't be in appealing packaging, or a wide range of flavours, nor be supported by lifestyle ad's. Their selling point will be their effectiveness?

The Tobacco & Vapes Bill committee has heard oral evidence from a range of so-called stakeholders with a vested interest in its passage through the legislative process. The truth is that it was one of the most one-sided Bill Committee hearings ever to take place both in terms of the membership of the committee and those giving evidence. No representatives from the vaping industry. No representation from the millions of vapers. Not one MP who opposed the Bill on the Committee. The result: The Tobacco and Vapes Bill committee hearing turned into the ‘Chamber of Misinformation’. These are some of the worse examples of the misinformation presented to the committee during the evidence sessions on April 30 and May 1:

@KeithGYoung @inijames @Vaping_Industry :-) 2-3 years ago, I thought disposable vapes were a Model-T throwback. And I still hate the waste. However, my goal is public health. I've spoken with many who work in smoking cessation clinics. Disposables DO help many elderly and disabled people quit smoking.

@KeithGYoung @ChaunceyGardner @Vaping_Industry It's worth looking at the positive response of the tobacco industry to this! Leave aside disposables - consider the impact of high prices, no flavours, unattractive packaging, and the implication vaping is as bad as smoking on smoking rates.

@ChaunceyGardner @inijames @Vaping_Industry No flippancy intended: what kills is not whether a cessation tool, such as vaping, exists or doesn't, but smoking. It's an important distinction. Vaping in the UK will stay, only with single-use devices and their marketing, assessed to have other health and social risks, removed.
