🚀 New Zabbix 8.0 will come with smarter PostgreSQL HA connectivity Zabbix 8.0 is bringing a long-awaited improvement for PostgreSQL deployments running in High Availability setups. 🔥 New Zabbix 8.0 is coming with a serious DNS upgrade. 🔥 A long-standing pain point: when you configure Server/ServerActive (or other checks) via hostnames, Zabbix components can end up resolving DNS over and over again, generating unnecessary load and adding latency. 🚀 Game changer in Zabbix 8.0: ClickHouse as a history backend + Elasticsearch improvements + much faster server startup with History Bulk Fetch. With the upcoming Type of information: JSON, the question becomes real: Do we keep everything in PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB… or finally split history by workload? What’s landing in the 8.0 line (currently in testing on the dev branch — JSON comes afterwards): ✅ This is about HISTORY storage only (not trends) — configuration + inventory + events stay in the main SQL DB ✅ ClickHouse as a native history backend — a strong option for high-volume historical data ✅ Elasticsearch is NOT forgotten — major tuning in 8.0 (connection reuse, no scroll context, stability fixes) ✅ Hybrid is possible: combine ClickHouse + Elasticsearch, use only one, or stay with classic SQL only 🔥 The really technical “wow”: per-value-type routing You can route history storage by value type. In our example setup: •ClickHouse → uint, dbl, log, text •Elasticsearch → str •SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL) → binary (stays in the main DB) 👉 The best part: these are optional history backends and you can mix them freely — per type, per use case, or not use them at all. And it’s visible end-to-end on the screenshots (config + server log + UI tags in “Latest data” — the UI tags are our own addition to make the backend choice instantly clear). ✅ Setup is straightforward (similar to PostgreSQL/MySQL): Install ClickHouse, create the database + user/permissions, load the provided schema, then enable it in the Zabbix server configuration (and the frontend config as well, if you want the UI to show the provider labels/metadata properly). There are also migration scripts available from MySQL and PostgreSQL, so getting started (or switching) is much easier. ⚡ Second huge win: History Bulk Fetch (for ALL supported databases) It’s not just ClickHouse/Elasticsearch — bulk fetch improvements apply across ClickHouse, Elasticsearch, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
