@uzoamakapower1 is an impersonator. i have no idea who this person is. they’re tweeting as me and posting my photos. They have made their profile identical to mine, too. This is deceitful. please report this account. thank you.❤️

You people are speaking the language of Buhari, Malami and Patience Jonathan. I'm sorry, but you really have to kill the oppressor within if you want to struggle for a new and better society.

Some of you are ridiculous to argue with - a law is draconian is equals to “you love banger boys”; “you hate children”;; “you hate accountability” - some of you people are silly.

@PazqalEriq I don’t think it is wrong in our context, where everything boils down to powerful vs powerless. If a law can only be deployed up vs down - it is fair to point that out. For violent crimes poor people can’t get justice - do you think any poor person can get justice for speech?

@darlytheboy Protected by what specific law? Freedom of speech generally is protected by the constitution. Laws like this Cybercrime is criminalising specific types of speech. Which law protects “criticizing of politicians”?

Some of the examples you guys are giving gan. “It sets bad precedent, tomorrow Politician A can arrest you for saying so and so” Firstly, You cannot be prosecuted for an opinion, also criticism of politicians is protected under freedom of expression

@keerahspice Some laws are unjust and some laws are worded deliberately where they are easily manipulated. This is the cybercrimes law - why would “a lie that causes annoyance or inconvenience” land anyone in jail. It is worded deliberately so it can be used to clamp free speech.

Keerah Is Writing Her First Book
Any law can be manipulated to suit personal agendas in this country, but if we use that as a reason to reject laws entirely, then we might as well stop prosecuting crimes altogether. We still prosecute crimes because people need to understand that actions have consequences.

@nwaegbe_nkem @sheni_coker Nkem, it is not every moral wrong that should become a crime. And it is not every crime that warrants time in prison. If we can’t agree on the above; then we can respectfully agree to disagree.

You can’t compare a product review to falsely claiming someone's child is dead or their wife has HIV. One is a valid criticism, the other is a crime

@nwaegbe_nkem @sheni_coker This law means a person can be punished with up to 2 or 3 years in prison for a lie that causes “inconvenience” or “insult” - clearly you don’t think that this is commensurate to the offence.

@sheni_coker Section 24(1). Couldn’t find the full Act; but got the snippet from a review of the Law by a law firm in July last year. Let me know if you need the link.

@iamDo2dtun Oh, I am now done tweeting about it. I just believe that the law in itself is a dangerous law; and every chance we get we should speak against it. Also, that a 2 year sentence was excessive. But the sentence has been passed; his lawyers can appeal for a reduced sentence.

My gee, it’s not in our place to change the constitution but advocate for it to be reviewed. In the meantime, stay out of trouble. You are all fighting a lost battle and facing the wrong things. So it means the judge used Ugo. C. Ugo to pass its judgment? Lol
Ejiro Esigbone@inkwhispers

@iamDo2dtun 1. It’s not in the constitution 2. It’s an addendum to the Cyber Crimes Act that was introduced a few years ago. And the main issue is that the punishment is too severe for a law that is dangerously vaguely worded. The image below has the problematic wording.
