@AugustJPollak It’s not an unambiguous yes, because most of those countries ration care so not everyone has access.

Free healthcare is great for simple medical issues but starts to fail as the issues become complex—a combination of waiting too long to see a specialist and often not getting care to the standard you can in USA. In many countries with free healthcare, people still end up buying private insurance to address above issues. If you have a tough medical issue, you can’t get better care than in an American hospital. It’s why so many foreigners come here for medical attention when they have cancer or need a complex surgery

@ileru @sklyarov @TylerMKing Maybe it used to work this way, but MacOS is incredibly sandboxed now when it comes to installing apps outside of the app store. If all you did was drag the app to Applications then the app can’t put files anywhere outside of its container without you granting it permission.

@sklyarov @TylerMKing Actually you do need one, and even two - one that traces files around your mac at install, and another one that uses some smart filters to find other files that were generated during use, which are never deleted at uninstall. Mac simplicity is just a cover-up for laziness.

all nyc/sf takes are downstream of this simple fact: people move to sf to get a particular job, while people get a particular job so they can move to nyc.

Mortgage rates spiked from 3% to >7%. That should've sent home prices down, but it hasn't BUT then the cost of insurance, property taxes & maintenance surged, too. These should also reduce home prices What's the compelling argument that prices WON'T ultimately adjust downwards?

@Andercot @adamtaggart Usually tripling the cost of something reduces the buying pressure significantly. Especially something that takes 20 to 30 years to pay off.

@StroteBook @AmandaMGoetz The population in Canada is way less than the states. This is a big part of it. But in Canada I know relatives who had to wait for treatment because of the approval process. I’d rather have catastrophic insurance, be on cash pay , negotiate my fees, and have lower taxes.

My partner had an ER trip earlier this year for 3 stitches. He’s on his employers insurance. He received 4 bills in the span of months so he called and asked for an itemized bill. I present to you all exhibit A: the itemized bill. The US Healthcare system is so broken. I’m going long on duct tape.
